We very much enjoyed our three-night stay here. Natalie is an excellent host. She made us very comfortable and she was extremely helpful in directing us to several things--a hike, a zoo, a whale watch--that we probably wouldn't have found on our own. She recommended and made reservations for us at restaurants that we thoroughly enjoyed. Everything was clean and comfortable and there was a nice breakfast in the morning, including excellent lattes from her husband. Travelers can use this accommodation as a good base for exploring the beautiful Saguenay Fjord.

Very enjoyable!

We were very happy with our three night stay, and would be glad to return when in the area.  Our room was called Chateau Lavardens. It has a spacious sitting room in addition to the bedroom and extra space next to the vintage bathroom. We also liked the large closets.  There is a beautiful dining room for breakfasts, and the option to have specialty coffees, and a choice of menu items.  Nathalie accommodated our lack of French language fluency, and gave recommendations for places to see.  There are two cats which kept their distance from us.  The grounds of the property are also very nice and spacious.

Delightfully unique

You can tell that the couple who is the owner and the management of this hotel puts their hearts into this place. It is beautiful! And on top of that, everything is taken care of to its finest details, towels, bedding, lighting, everything. There is a history to the chateau and I am glad the owners have taken up the responsibility to keep it alive. We stayed in the room on the ground floor called St Exupéry so there is a bit of fantasy touch. Would love to try another style another time!

Loved it!

The old building in a very quiet but central area was really impressive. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Nice rooms which don’t loose the old charme of the building but had everything you need(refrigerator, tv, USB ports). Calm and comfy stay.
The mattress in our room was a little bit worn out and should be changed. No real problem for us during our two night stay.

Beautiful chateau to explore the fjord

If you want to unwind and experience a bit of luxury at a reasonable price, the Chateau Murdock will please you. The inn is found in a quiet residential large city home and gardens nearby other beautiful homes. Breakfasts are extraordinary works of art, including fresh juice, individually made coffees, with toast, unique egg creations, fruits and salads.

Lovely house & breakfast, great location

We felt at home the moment we arrived, especially as house slippers are provided at the entrance to ensure that the beautiful wood floors stay immaculately clean. The house is tastefully decorated with some lovely pieces of vintage furniture, interesting objets d'art, and even paintings done by the owner herself! The rooms were spotless and extremely comfortable, and it made such a refreshing change to stay at a place where every room is unique. Unfortunately, we didn't really get the chance to enjoy the lovely garden, which boasts a pool and a jacuzzi, but we did appreciate being so close to the centre of town, yet away from any noise. The owners were extremely welcoming and gave us loads of great advice on where to go and what to see. They even made a dinner reservation for us at one of the local restaurants. The highlight, though, has to be the amazing breakfasts. The menu was different every day of our three-night stay, but always included wonderfully fresh fruit, homemade jams, delicious croissants and free range eggs from the hotel's own hens! The individually selected barista-style coffee was the perfect accompaniment. We couldn't recommend this lovely Gite more, and will certainly be going back if we get the chance.

All the comforts of home with a gourmet breakfast

On our first visit to the Saugenay my wife and I discovered this place on another booking site.  Based on reviews there and on Tripadvisor we decided to give this place a shot.  This city, formally known as Chicoutimi, is like any typical small city.  Large box stores, a University and a major hospital. This Inn is anything but typical, set in an "old" style chateau, this Inn built in the 1950's is sitting on a lovely green spot in the heart of this city.  It is feels so far when sitting out on the chairs on thier lovely lawn, but downtown is within walking distance.  The Inn itself needs some work on the outside but the couple who run it have done a fabulous job on the inside, with a lovely decor throughout the inn.  Our room located on the second floor had a lovely view of the city.  The Inn has some house rules, like check in is after 4pm and slippers are to be worn inside the Inn (they can provide some to you if you forget to pack your own) but considering how clean and quiet the Inn is it is totally understandable.  Our hostess made dinner recommendations that were fantastic.  A great place to stay as you can easily reach Tadoussac to the south or Lac St.Jean to the north. When we go back we will be staying here as it is not a typical city hotel but a lovely Chateau run by a very nice couple.  

Oasis in the city

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome. We were provided with very useful information on the local area.  The accommodation was excellent with very comfortable beds. The breakfasts were amazing, beautifully presented. The proprietors were very informative, they also hosted a pizza night whilst we were there. They made fresh pizza in a wood fired oven in the garden and although our French is poor in the extreme (sorry) we still felt included. I like the fact indoor shoes are not to be worn. I would highly recommend this place I think it might just be my favourite hotel.

Excellent place wonderful people

Stayed for three nights while on vacation in Quebec. Lovely quiet chateau. Very welcoming owners. Cozy rooms with all the amenities. Beautiful grounds with lots of character. Central location for walking downtown for meals. Had breakfast which was delicious and plentiful. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful, quiet stay

Chateau Murdock is situated in a peaceful area close to the University and is a very impressive building. We arrived to a warm welcome from our hostess and were conducted to our very elegant and well furbished room on the ground floor.Slip on rubber shoes are available to wear whilst indoors, which is a good way of indicating the 'no outdoor footwear' policy.
On our host's recommendation, we went into town and had a very pleasant meal and returned to a comfortable night's sleep. 
Breakfast was served by our host's daughter in a very elegant dining room, and consisted of gorgeous blueberry crumbles, pancakes, cereals and croissants. All beautifully presented.
Sadly we only had time to spend one night at the Chateau, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
One of the most expensive places we stayed at during our trip to Quebec, but it was worth it!
