We stayed here for one night before going to the Pantanal. There is literally nothing to see in Campo Grande, the only thing was a church in front of the hotel. When we arrived there, the prize seemed higher than described in the Lonely Planet, so be careful. Prize was really expensive for the value it provided in a city where there was nothing to see or do.

When I was asking why the wifi didn't work, they didn't want to answer and they were angry because I asked something. We had some questions about the Pantanal since we wanted to go there the next day, but the staff didn't know anything about it or did not want to help us. Luckily we met a Brazilian guest who helped us out and who booked a pousada in the Pantanal for us. The next day, we were happy to leave the place.

When you are going to the Pantanal, I can recommend you pousada Santa Clara. It is a relatively cheap solution if you want to do the Pantanal on a budget.

Unfriendly staff

We stayed here on the way back from a Pousada in the Pantanal so I was covered in mosquito bites, tired from an 7 hour coach transfer and covered in dust.  All I wanted was a hot shower and a clean bed.  The location is central but on a Sunday night it was quiet and there were no obvious food options.  There was an evangelical church in full voice opposite the hotel, however - probably the nicest thing about the whole stay.  The hotel is accessed through a side door, attached to a building in poor condition, weighed down with Campo Grande's scattergun approach to electrical wiring.  The lobby is okay but nothing special.  We were taken to our room - a twin despite a double being booked - and it was very much more like a hostel than a hotel.  Despite it being wet, the window woudln't close properly.  The beds appeared okay in terms of cleanliness but the sheets were thin and itchy.  The fittings were old and the room needed a serious lick of paint.  There was also a load of useless furniture in the room - a school chair and individual desk which served no other purpose than blocking your ability to exit the room, an unplugged and filthy fridge, an unplugged and 1990s TV set, a set of wide but low shelves which had blankets that looked like damp dogs (bleugh!).  The bathroom was old, cracked tiles, no hot water (although this is pretty common in Brazil), two tiny towels provided and weirdly no toilet paper so we had to go ask for that.  There was wifi but it did't work in our room.  It was very noisy as well - we couldn't fully close the window and the TV from the lobby was on all night at full blast.  Breakfast was buffet style in contrast to what some other reviewers have said but the milk had curdled - yuk.  However, the banana cake provided was utterly delicious (every cloud and all that...!)  In all, we couldn't wait to get out of there.  Thankfully our next hotel in Foz was 1000% better!

Avoid - even for one night

We stayed at the pousada on our way to Bonito, catching a bus in the morning.  The location is very good, in the centre and one block away from an airport bus stop.  The entry is nice, like a veranda with plants and cosy outdoor seating.  Unfortunately this did not match with the room, which was not cosy at all, with a dirty floor and dirty walls.  The sheets however were very clean, as was the bathroom.  The breakfast was very ok, in a nice atmosphere.  In all, ok if you have to spend a night in Campo Grande.

Ok just for the night

The hotel is ok and does what it says on the tin. I stayed here for one night after being in the Pantanal and to be honest just wanted to get cleaned up and have a room to myself for a night before flying out the next day. The staff don't speak any English but are still very friendly and happy to help with anything you need (via hand signals or translator on iphone). The bed was very clean, clean towels, tv but the bathroom could do with a clean lick of paint due to a bit of damp. I had a room on the ground floor and still had a great night's sleep. Struggled to find somewhere to eat as it was a Sunday evening so ended up at Bob's burgers. It looked as if there were many other options available open during the week though. The breakfast is served to you rather than being self-service and strangely included green jelly - so not as good value as other parts of Brazil. Ok for being in a central location and a one night stop though.

Ok hotel in the heart of Campo Grande

the facade is just the entry "porch", but inside it is quite cosy. depending on how busy it is you can get a very nice room,  big enough to feel comfortable!!! The breakfast is not brazilian style buffet, but a bun, some jam, cheese/ham and coffee, indeed a bit meagre for brazil. However I felt the hotel is nice enough to stay there,it is central and rather cheap (75 Rs, in brasil this is not expensive!! go to Rio Branco you pay at least double) in my experience there are few places that match this quality-price in Brazil. Indeed the staff speaks little else than portuguese but they are nice enough for sure! There are plenty of restaurants around the hotel,so you will not stay hungry (sunday and monday evening however much more limited choices!!)
