Villa Emilia

My partner and I enjoyed a 6 day stay at Villa Emilia in de Haan, probably the best sea side location on the Belgium coast. We arrived early afternoon after a short drive from Dunkirk Port and were easily parked outside the Villa with reserved parking. Our hostess owns a chocolate shop just 50 metres from the Villa from where we collected the keys and were also presented with a free box of Belgium chocolates and a voucher for ice-cream to be used at her husbands shop next door. Our apartment was spacious, very quite, immaculaly clean and equipeed with a large comfortable double bed and shower room with plentiful hot water. A kitchenete with tea or coffee making facilities was also provided. Every morning a continental breakfast was presented outside our door at a time we requested with more than enough to eat. Villa Emilia is well positioned being just 150 metres from the beautiful sandy sea shore, close to many restaurants and importantly, the coastal tram service which basically runs from the Dutch to French border. If you are keen walker you can walk the sea shore as far as you can go, then cut across the sand dunes and take the tram back to de Haan. From de Haan you may also take a bus directly to Bruges. EUR 6 will buy you a ticket that allows all day travel on public buses and trams. The day tickets can be purchased at the tram station. Such is the Belgian public transport efficiency we never used our car for the whole week!! Bottom line - highly recommended.
