We've spend 3 days in Freaser Island with a group of 30 backpackers. We were 8 people per 4x4 during those days - great experience to drive on the sand! Would definetely recommanded it!
Negativ point:the guide! It was Peters first trip and I can completely understand he was nervous, but I couldn't fully enjoy the trip. Everything had to be "Quick quick", no time at all on the different stops (feeling in a military camp), we've got lost twice while going back to the campside... The food wasn't the best (this wasn't Peter fault!) - wraps, sandwiches and pasta, typical backpackers food yay! Would have expected a bit better for the price 😅 OTHERWISE, the stops and landcapes were AMAZING, the group was great and we had a lot of fun in the 4x4 with loud music and cool evenings on the Island! 🌞

FREASER EXPERIENCE

100% recommend this tour to anyone going to Fraser Island. We had an unbelievable time here. The receptionist’s we met and our guide Tom as just great. Tom took such good care of our group even reminding us to put suncream on out on Fraser while still making us laugh all the time. Really knows what he’s doing. Nearly overfed us in the island and the camping was actually so comfortable just off the beach. Even seeing the milky-way at night.   Everyone had such a good night sleep and Tom woke us for the sunrise so we could all watch.   Driving was surreal with everyone getting the chance to get behind the wheel. Love the common room in the hostel and the cinema that you can chill out in. Even have a lost and found if you have left something behind. This was my favourite tour by far on our travels.

Fraser Island Trip and stay in Hervey Bay

My friend and I booked a 12 bed dorm for $18 each and we were very happy with what we got, the rooms are clean, modern and spacious despite having so many people in there, however the en suites are a little run down. Staff are very friendly especially the blonde woman at reception. 
Overall very pleased with our stay and would happily come again.

Great value for money for what you get

Stayed in this hostel for 2 nights either side of their Fraser Island tour; very average if anything, maybe below. Poor communal bathrooms, a bunk bed with no ladder and a few windowless rooms left for slightly uncomfortable staying; however, one double bed per room and relatively spacious ones accommodate somewhat. Despite this, the stay was fine and these became almost non-issues. The tour was fantastic, despite the relatively poor camping conditions, and we were kept safe nonetheless. Was forced to sleep in a car due to a lack of space however. Rain ruined the first day but the next two were fantastic, would definitely recommend.

Good stop off before Fraser island

We did the 4 night trip to Fraser Island, 1 night in the hostel prior to the trip and then 2 nights camping on the island then 1 night after the trip back in the hostel. 
The location of the hostel is great (right near the Greyhound stop) and close to shops, bars and restaurants considering there isn't much to do in Hervey Bay. Upon arrival the reception staff were super friendly and the first room we were put in was spacious and clean with an en suite however the beds were old and worn and springs that jabbed you in the ribs... saying that it was okay for the one night - as a backpacker you expect the odd dodgy bed in a hostel. We didn't cook in the hostel as the kitchen was tiny and dirty when we arrived, its also not too expensive to eat out so that was the best option for us. They also offer a locker for $10 deposit which is a great place to store your luggage during your trip. 

The tour itself was great! Tony our tour guide was first class! Not only did we share his knowledge of the Island he was funny and a great cook and we felt like we'd made a friend in him. The 4X4 driving was amazing and everyone in the cars got a decent amount of time driving along the beaches and off road on the dunes. The camping was tough but fun on reflection. The tents we thought were small for the amount of people staying in them but bearable. The toilet situation is a slight issue, one portaloo between 30 people was simply not enough and it didn't take long before it was smelling. There are also no showers so we'd recommend to take baby wipes to wash for sure, saying that with most the lakes being fresh water it wasn't so bad. Insect repellent is also a MUST people on our tour were eaten alive and the horse flys on the island are huge! The food was great and the places you visit make it all worth while!

The night after the tour we were checked back into the hostel and were put in a tiny room upstairs which was much too small for 10 people and i was only in the room less than 5 minutes before i asked to change rooms as i felt claustrophobic and there was no way i could have slept in that room. They did move us with no problem at all and the second room was much better however we still had the same problem with the springs poking out on the beds.

Overall the Tour was incredible however the hostel was basic and the beds let that place down but the staff are super nice and common area was good. We would for sure recommend this tour its not by any means easy but we believe it is the best way to see and experience Fraser Island.

Amazing tour - Hostel average.

We had the most amazing time on this trip!  Macca our tour guide was such a good laugh and ensured we saw everything we possibly could! Saw all the amazing lakes, scenery and loads of wild dingo's but still felt safe the entire time. If you are looking for a Fraser island experience then this is defiantly the one to go for!

Fraser island trip with Macca

Our tour with Macca was incrediable! He is an amazing tour guide that made the three days unbelievable! We didn’t get to do the normal tour because of the weather but I honestly didn’t feel like I missed out with everything we seen and done. Our best trip in aus so far! A very amazing few days with lots of fun people. We didn’t rate the hostel, when we arrived before the trip the lady on the desk was so friendly and nice.. (girl with blonde hair) we then got to our room.. we were the first ones in it and it hadn’t been cleaned.. clumps or hair all over the bathroom .. in the shower.. dust and dirt everywhere. We ended up staying there for 5 days as our tour was cancelled and in the 5 days they didn’t clean once. They came in in the mornings and changed the bin that was it. There was then a very rude woman on the desk, small older lady that was very abrupt with us. Arguing that we hadn’t paid when we did. And had no time for us. The people that went to her after us she was really nice to so I’m not sure if she just had a problem with us but it just wasn’t very nice especially because we ended up staying there so long. If you are going for one or two nights it’s fine.. but overall the tour was amazing and worth it. Thank you Macca!
