My wife and me visited this hotel last week. We had reserved what the hotel calls a "superior" room, mountain view. We were assigned to a room, not bigger than 10 square meter, in the second floor. As tired as we were from our trip to El Bolson, we took the room without questioning. Next morning I asked the front desk, what the word superior had to do with that room. The answer I received was that the reservation they had from the travel agency was for a standard room. After showing them our voucher (where it clearly stated the kind of room), and after some arguing about what they had loaded in their system, the clerk addressed responsability to the travel agency. 
I claimed and someone came in (I guess it was the owner) who argued again against the travel agency, saying it was not the first time that happened, to which I informed him I would file a claim at the Tourism Office. In that moment, he decided it was a good time to show his goodness and gave us a better room, almost three times bigger, that meeted the conditions we hired. 

Anyway, the rooms need maintenance, the matresses are old and do not allow for a good sleep. We had to request maintenance for the toilet sink, and for a night lamp not working properly. 

Breakfast is a self service buffet, normal, nothing extra, and the girls who take care of breakfast are more interested in registering room number than to answer a customer´s greeting. 

I am not so sure I would return to this hotel. 

Not so good as expected

It's a clean hotel with nice bedrooms. We only stayed here for one night.  
When we arrived the staff was verry friendly. However they could not give us a map of the region.  They told us to go to the tourist center. At the reception it's always nice to get some extra information about things to see and things to do. The english of the staff is also a minimum.
Overall not so bad. But things can be improved.  

Average ok

The location is quite good and the staff very friendly ,On the other hand the corridor , 2nd floor ,carpet smells bad and the toilet was completely clogged . Also check out is at 10 whle ckeck is at 3p.m  .The buffet breakfast has no variety , the view from the breakfast room is really good - lots of shades of green and beautiful flowers . 
If you want to pay with credit in more than one installments there is an extra charge .

Cumbres Hotel has a good central location, an easy walk to the town center. The front desk staff was friendly when I arrived but when I asked for suggestions of activities or restaurants,   I was told to "go to the tourist office."    The hotel had no information on rafting, kayaking, hiking or even a map of the town.  So I went to the tourist office.  A tourist I met the next day from Buenos Aires described her similar bad experience at the tourist office as "less than useless."  The woman I spoke to could not have been more unfriendly and offered no information whatsoever.  They didn't have any sort of map either. She told me they were "out of map". Back to the hotel.  My first night was miserable.  Even with it being summer and mid eighties (F), there was only a very old, loud floor standing fan which on low speed sounded like a turbo prop plane taking off. It was cooler outside than in the room but when I tried to sleep with the window opened, the street noise (Cumbres is on the main drag through town) made this impossible.  On top of this, the old refrigerator in the room had a constant high pitched whine (like a big mosquito) which required me to unplug it.  Management was very nice and accommodating, allowing me to change rooms the next day for one on the upper floor which had a marginally quieter fan but the same tired,noisy refrigerator which I had to unplug each night.  Other than the constant noise and disrupted sleep, the room was comfortable enough but very basic (like a low end motel).  Wi fi signal was weak or non-existant. Now to the included "breakfast."   I have travelled all over Argentina in the past ten years and stayed in dozens of hotels in the same price range as Cumbres ( $116USD per night) and this breakfast was by far the worst (and most unhealthy) I've experienced anywhere.   Canned pears with a grey pallor floating in syrup, canned orange juice which was sickeningly sweat and finally just dry cakes, rolls, dulce de leche and jams (which did not seem fresh) and a sugar coated cereal that looked like fruit loops. There was no salami, cheese, yogurt, or any type of protein or dairy as is usually standard, especially in Patagonia. The options for coffee were watery Nescafe from a machine or to pay 35 pesos (about $2.50 USD) for one cup of real coffee.  There was no other food available, even a la carte. I learned that the breakfast is run by Tomatican, which has a restaurant in town (also to be avoided and  is reviewed by me separately). The guy who managed the restaurant was unfriendly and suggested in a very rude way that I was unhappy with the breakfast because I was an American.  I responded that I was a legal permanent resident of Argentina for the past 10 years and was only comparing to other "3 star" hotels in Argentina.   Conclusion:  Unless you are launching off on a multi-day mountain trekking trip and must spend one night in El Bolson, I suggest avoiding El Bolson entirely.  Everything seemed way more expensive than other, more tourist welcoming towns in Argentina and many things seemed a deliberate rip off (almost $30USD each way for a 15 min taxi ride to a trail head for example).  The towns like Villa la Angostura and San Martin de los Andes on the north side of Bariloche offer better reasonably priced lodging, much better restaurant selection, more options for outdoor activities, generally friendlier people (many people would not even return my "hello" passing on the trails out of El Bolson) and, in my opinion, these towns are much more beautiful places to visit as they are located right on spectacular lakes.  I have been to these towns two or three times each and wish I had gone to one of them on this trip. 

Below average value for Argentina, awful breakfast

While I initially resisting staying in a "big, boring" hotel in this creative little town, after 3 nights here, I would recommend it enthusiastically.  Our room was very basic, and quite warm (cooled with floor fan), but certainly adequate with good hot showers and strong wifi.  I also really liked the location close to the center of town; we were able to walk to the Féria and for all meals easily.  The best part though was the staff:  friendly, patient, accommodating, helpful, kind.  This included the two wonderful ladies at the desk as well as the cleaning and kitchen staff. Thank you Cumbres for a wonderful stay! 

Basic in some ways, exceptional in others

We liked the Cumbres Hotel for our last few nights before transitioning back home. It's a nice facility with great service, a decent breakfast, in a good location for walking to the artist market. Not necessary exciting but just a nice basic hotel with simple rooms. Very clean and they have covered parking if you have a rental car.
