Is this a 3 star hotel? No.  But I had a lovely stay and the location is excellent.  The room rate includes breakfast and is very inexpensive.  But more importantly, it was clean, safe, and within walking distance of so many things!  

I also arranged for my airport transfers directly with the hotel and glad I did.  It was only about $5 more than taking Uber and so worth it since Uber can be unreliable at times (unavailability/last minute cancellations), if you have a late night/early morning pick-up. 

The hotel itself and the rooms are definitely dated, but I found the hotel charming and reminiscent of some riads in Morocco.  The Wi-Fi connection was excellent, I never had any connectivity issues.  The tv is not great, and only a few channels even came in, but I wasn't there to stay in my room and watch tv anyway :)  I had forgotten my hairdryer and the staff quickly brought one to my room for me - service was GREAT at all times!

Breakfast is a simple nice continental breakfast of bread, jam, sliced fresh fruit, coffee and a fabulous fresh fruit smoothie.  They also ask if you'd like huevos, which they prepare by request.  Although you can eat inside the rooftop "cafeteria" I sat outside on the terrace to enjoy fresh air and view of the Virgen de El Panecillo.

Although it is helpful if you speak at least basic Spanish, the staff does not speak English, I cannot say enough positive things about the entire staff.  Super friendly, always willing to help any way they can, and they even bought new pillows for the room I was in after I showed them the condition of the ones that were in my room (imagine flattened rocks in a pillow case with some cotton balls).  For times where my limited Spanish was not good enough, the Google Translate app was a perfect quick solution.  They do keep the front door locked whenever they need to step away from the front desk, but all you have to do is ring the bell and someone lets you in within a minute or two.

One thing that can be annoying was somebody's car alarm kept going off one night and another it sounded like someone working on their car in the middle of the night.  The hotel offers secured parking but unfortunately the garage was right below my room. For room complaints, the bed isn't the most comfortable, but it was fine.  Cosmetically, the room could use a make-over, but my room and linens were kept very clean at all times.  

At night the area around the hotel can be sketchy beyond the doors of the hotel, but that holds true for the streets of Quito in general it seems regardless of what neighborhood you're in.  I was there during Carnival, so that could have affected things as well.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an inexpensive, clean, safe hotel with a friendly and helpful staff, that is also in an excellent location within walking distance of many points of interest.

Lovely Stay, Excellent Location, Clean and Inexpensive

Great experience here, super cheap so you see getting a three star experience. Breakfast (smoothie , eggs, bread, fruit salad) and the accommodation is simple but that is what you paid for.  

Where the hotel really excels is the helpfulness of the staff.  Cleva and Jose luis provided transport to and from the airport for equal price as Uber and they helped us find a SIM card shop and exchanged our dollars  staff don’t speak English but they do their best.

Location is central so close to the sites and the local area is a bit chaotic but that’s part of the Quito experience.

Great times

If you want to visit several sites (as was my case) in the historic center, this hotel is an excellent choice because of its location. It is easy and safe to walk from the hotel to such points. However, although I did not feel insecure, the night sector is very lonely. Without a doubt the best part of the hotel is the care of the staff, especially of the gentlemen Guillermo y Klever, who attended my requests at all times and with the greatest diligence and kindness. The rooms, although they are old, are clean and spacious. The breakfasts are complete: fruit, eggs, coffee and juice. For anyone looking for a good quality-price option in the Historic Center, I highly recommend it.

It is cozy, we were prepared a very good breakfast, the room was clean, but what we liked most was the attention of don Gustavo very kind and always very attentive to our needs.

Unusually they did not have a record of my reservation online so they wanted me to pay again which was difficult to figure out as no one there spoke English. He did make a call and settled things and overall the staff tried to be very helpful. They had a small garage for my car and the location was convenient for walking. The wifi did not work but they moved me to another room in the evening where it worked well. Breakfast was pretty good.  The property is beat down but functional. The only real issue and I don’t think I would stay there again is due to the noise. There is no blocking the noise from cars and trucks going by at all hours and I stayed on Saturday where loud dance music was playing from somewhere nearby until dawn. It does not work well for having to catch an early flight the next morning.

Rooms and quite, the beds and linen is the best I have experienced in Quito, Ecuador. WiFi Good to Very Good...quite at night..seems to be for backpackers ect..one of the "quite" gems of Old Town, Quito...like most hotels here the kitchen/restaurant is closed...

Very central in historic centre ..well priced hotel..
So friendly. They not only helped with travel plans..even finding a hotel in guaranda for the carnival when all the booking.coms couldn't help..
If available they drove us to bus terminals..
I cannot reccomend them higher for friendliness and helpfulness..

This hotel is for those people who are more focused on the city than the hotel. The location is spectacular. Very close to the Plaza Grande, the brain of the Historic Center. The hotel staff Mr. Wilhelm and his daughter (preparing breakfast) are always ready and friendly. Suggestion to improve breakfast. But the whole thing goes beyond that detail.

Hotel well located in the historic center of Quito, the breakfast is quite simple but satisfying. The hotel staff are very helpful and like to give the impression that the guests are at their home.
