The rooms are very well maintained and the attention is very good.It is just a few blocks from the beach and it is a quiet area where you can rest.The prices are very affordable.It is highly recommended, one of the best care I have received.

Excellent attention and attention.

I was GRANDPAcking in Puerto Lopez for 4 nights.
I booked myself into the Hostal Dannita … it was 1.5 blocks east of the main road and half the price of something comparable on the beachfront. 
I booked a Double Room (single occupancy) at a discounted rate of US$12 / night. For another $3 / night I included the optional Breakfast.
The street was ‘untidy’ but, as I discovered once I got here, it is no ‘worse’ than the streets nearer the beach ... PL is just an 'unkept' town.
My room was an average size.
It had very little furniture. But, it did have an open wardrobe with shelves.
It had an hot water shower (which, at this time of year, is almost a necessity) … alas, to get ‘hot’ you had to turn the water flow down very low … and, then, ‘run around to get wet’.
The Free WiFi was good most of the time and good enough to stream video.
Breakfast was served in the communal Hammock Area.
And, there was a kitchen that you could use.
Not bad for US$15 / night including Breakfast …
… and the US$10+ per night that I saved paid for my 1 Day Whale Watching – Isla de la Plata trip.

Puerto Lopez isn't a 'Beach Holiday Town' ... so, go for Value For Money and save your $$$s

Excellent attention from its owner, pleasant and kind, with good recommendations about the village. Delicious breakfasts. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Good prices for a private room.

Calidez is the only one.

The hostal has a very homely feel to it as Solanda and her family are actually living and spending most their time there. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Solanda has a little food stall right in front of the building and makes great fries/Salchipapa and empanadas. Unfortunately the wifi didn't work in our room (we had the first room when you enter the building) and we had troubles sleeping as the dog, rooster and ATVs were very loud during the night and in the morning. The owners however were very caring and helpful. 

Great place but couldn't satisfy us

I stayed in this hostel alone for 3 nights in July, and I would recommend it to everyone looking for relaxation and a friendly host!
As soon as I arrived, the Solanda told me that I was booked into a room with 5 boys, so if I wanted, I could stay in a private room with a private bathroom for the same price - what a service! The room was great - spacious, comfy bed, fan, and a functioning bathroom. 
I spent most of my time reading in the comfy hammocks, chatting to Solanda and her husband. They were really so lovely and so interested to know all about me, and just chat - they even invited me to join the family for dinner in the hostel one evening! They were truly lovely. 
It's a shame that the hostel doesn't have too many photos and doesn't advertise itself very well - I arrived in Puerto Lopez just to see what I could find, and didn't have much luck. I didn't really trust Hostel Dannita because there wasn't much about it online, but I had no other option! But I am so pleased that I did. It was great value compared with other hostels in PL ($8/night!), and is located in a quiet sidestreet, just a 2 min walk from the supermarket and the beautiful beach.
Puerto Lopez itself is a little run-down - more so after the earthquake this year unfortunately - although it is still charming and worth a visit!

Lovely family-run hostel

A simple and warm hostel, the attention of Solanda and Victor makes a difference, they help you at all times, recommend places and make you feel at home.To all those who want to go to the Machalilla National Park and Isla de la Plata and look for a quiet and familiar starting point, I recommend stopping in Puerto Lopez and Hostal Dannita (and by the way ask Solanda to prepare the best Ecuadorian ceviche!!!!)

Quality and excellent care.

Great opportunity, cheap and of great hospitality, the very friendly and well-meaning owners to guide routes and nearby destinations... Recommended... If you can use the shared kitchen and bathrooms...

Very helpful.

At first I stayed with my partner to spend Christmas in Puerto López, but noticing that there was more to be known, that we had no plans for a new year, and that there was the possibility of staying, we decided to stay for a week longer. And not only because of the places we had not visited, or the lack of plans, but also because of the very pleasant attention that the owners of the Plata hostel provided us. If there is anything that really stands out, it is the attention that Dan, which is 100% personalized, unlike many places to meet and thank family where you finish a new year's holidays, and that there was the possibility of staying, decided to stay for a week longer.

The atmosphere is pleasant, familiar, de lo mejor (opinion in detail)

The reception is amazing even if they don't speak English. They are an old local couple who will do everything to make your stay enjoyable. They are available and helpful. Breakfast is delicious and excellent. If you buy the products, the boss will be happy to cook for everyone! Wifi nickel, clean rooms, 200 meters from the beach and 100 from the supermarket. For this price, you should not hesitate.

As a family

To be honest with you guys, I normally do not write reviews about the places I've stayed in. But my experience I've just had in Hostel Dannita, doesn't give me the choice not to do so...

I booked a dorm room (12 beds) in Hostel Dannita. When I entered the room, I found myself with two other Ecuadorian guys who had sort of their stuff to sell on the streets with them (toys, ballons etc.). I don't think that I would have had a bad night with them in the room (don' think that they would have robbed anything from me) but still, the atmosphere in the room was a little bit dodgy. Therefore, I asked if their might exist the opportunity to change my room. Five minutes after that, I got a private room, with private shower / bathroom. What a service - honestly! And more...

Not only did they give me another room, but also helped me with the things to visit around town. We had great conversations and the family is really friendly!

I was quite surprised when Carolina (daughter) knocked on my door to give me a fresh home made juice, asking if I like to have dinner with them. Just brilliant!
