We felt very welcome here, it was more like being in someone's home than a hotel. Luis (the owner) is incredibly amiable, as well as being a very good cook.

The building and scenery are impressive with great views of Cotopaxi, the Ilinizas and the other surrounding mountains. Inside the rooms are large with big windows and it is decorated like someone's well maintained home. The fire in the large sitting room, which has three larges sofas and some armchairs is very welcome as it does get cold at this altitude. The bedrooms are chilly, but we hardly spent any time there (apart from sleeping) as this really is a place where you feel welcome in the sitting room.

We chose this place to help us acclimatise for trips to climb the mountains, it did that, but I'm only writing this review because this is a wonderful place with a great host and I hope many people come here to experience and enjoy it.  (It is also relatively cheap as the price includes dinner). 

For local walks the owners have created a well signposted trail to a local waterfall, (allow 1 hour) or there is a longer local walk up the hill behind.

Paying by cash was easier than paying electronically, there were no unexpected extras on the bill.

The most welcoming lodge in Ecuador

The site is indeed located upstream of the Los Illinizas Ecological Reserve, however, the location on Google Maps is wrong, don't use it.But most importantly, the photos featured in the ad are focused in such a way as to hide reality: A house on the side of the road, very neglected, and dirty.I suggest tourists not to make the trip to this place in vain.

My dad and I had the pleasure of staying at Illinizas Lodge for one night before climbing Illiniza Norte. In terms of location, you simply cannot beat it. The lodge sits in the foothills of the Illinizas mountains and you arrive to breathtaking views of not only Illiniza Sur and Norte but also Cotopaxi. Location aside, what really puts the Lodge over the top is the manager, Leonardo. Upon arriving, we were welcomed with warm cups of tea that would help us get acclimated to the altitude. Leonardo and his son took us for a tour of the farm and the entire valley, which is home to cows, farmland, a small pond, tree house, river, and again, those views. We were lucky enough to enjoy three wonderful meals prepared by Leonardo and his wife, and spent much of our night talking and relaxing with Leonardo in the living room in front of a fire. In addition to being a great spot for those looking to hike Illinizas, the Lodge would be a wonderful spot for families to come and relax, for groups to do some smaller hikes and get acclimated to the altitude difference, or for anyone looking to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the highlands of Ecuador. The Lodge immediately feels like home, and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking to enjoy one of the most beautiful spots in Ecuador.

Absolutely perfect

A gem among the mountains. Illinizas lodge is a secret hideaway surrounded by some of Ecuador's most breathtaking mountains/volcanoes (Cotopaxi can be seen from the lodge, among many others). This lodge is the perfect place to go if you want to be a bit adventurous and simply let nature astound you...

Accommodations: amazing, rustic lodge with incredible views and comfortable rooms. Sit by the fire downstairs while looking out of the huge windows overlooking the mountains. Hot showers a plenty. To note, you will be at very high altitude so bring warm clothes. I cannot stress that enough. Leo (our host) brought a heater to our room nonetheless, and we slept warmly and happily!

Surrounding area: an underrated part of Ecuador...Illinizas reserve shows an incredible display of Ecuador's natural wonders. Mountains, flowers, animals, this place has it all. We loved Cotopaxi, Quilotoa and the like, but DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! Also, only an hour away from Quito.

Leo, our host, made the trip even more enjoyable with his warm spirit and knowledge/passion for the area. Although my bf and I are not much for group activities, we wanted Leo with us every step of the way; it was like having a friend alongside you who knew everything about the area. Just perfection.

One-of-a-kind escape in a beautifully preserved Ecuadorian Nature Reserve!

Tucked away at the hills of the twin peaks of the Illinizas mountains sits the Illinizas Lodge. It's at once close to quito / machachi but also so secluded that it can give you some time to disconnect. 

At least one large family room has a fireplace. We needed it as it was very bold at night. Views from the room are less spectacular - some facing the car park.

Food was not very inspiring.

Service from manager was very attentive and hands-on. This treatment elevates the overall experience. Hikes around the lodge are very nice...the main draw to this location.

Rustic charm with attentive service

The house is very beautiful and cozy and I think that the rustic touch is what fascinated me. The beds are very comfortable and with enough mantas so that you won't get cold at night. One more of the rooms is that they have their own heating machine so that sleeping warm is 100% guaranteed. Good water pressure in the shower and always hot water to bathe you. The room that was assigned to me had a wonderful view and above all had several windows and I can assure you that at nights it was literally Come the stars. The food was good both at breakfast and lunch, I ate other cupcakes but this one also had its charm. 🙂 The family that has this place makes you feel like home and that is something of dignity.

 Connection with nature, away from the noise of the city.

We absolutely loved this place!  Be sure to bring your jacket - you are at a high altitude and it is cold at night!  There is a fireplace in the common area but it isn't very warm.  The beds have a lot of very warm blankets, though, so it wasn't cold when we went to sleep.  Diego is the chef and his meals are very good.  Leonardo was a great host and escorted us on a nice hike.  We also enjoyed the horse back riding outing.

A Gem

This lodge situated in La Reserva Ecologica Illinizas is a wonderful respite high in the mountains. The rooms are very cozy, the water hot and heaters available at night if needed. While there is a set menu, the food is quite good and local Ecuadorian. The hospitality was amazing. The owner and staff got up at 4 am to serve us breakfast so we could get an early start on Illinizas peak. They also made us box lunches to pack for the route. Would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Place

The hotel itself is very nice and has a nice location, but we felt cheated. Prices were far too high and the pricing data were not final: in the final invoice, 22 percent was added to tour prices, food, bicycle rent, pickup service, etc., dinner was very poor in quality: the toilet looked like a chewing gum, service was not particularly good: the rooms were not cleaned or cleaned after the first night, the second morning there was simply no more water without information, windows in the room and the bathroom were not opened, as they were closed with tape tape, this led to the fact that there was constant sweat water in the room, only on demand there were towels and shower, all the door locks were available until the first night, and then we had to wait for a total of about $700.

Poor service, overpriced, beautiful views of Illinois

It's a really cozy place. The house is very nice, the rooms are also very comfortable and cozy and the setting and the environment are really amazing. Ideal as a starting point for a good visit to the Illinois or just for a walk and disconnect from the city for a few days. The family that carries it makes you feel at home and they are flexible in the check out, a fact that allows you to enjoy the last day of your stay to the fullest (If you're very grateful to be able to take a good shower, with super hot water and with the right pressure, after the mountain tour). 100% recommended in terms of quality/price.
