Short Stay

This place was highly recommended to me by a great friend and if I am not mistaken, I felt at home I went with traveling friends and we formed a nice group in the hostel, it has a well-equipped kitchen which helped us a lot and also a large garden with a ping-pong table and hammocks, they have fast WiFi which helped us a lot in our online work plus super quiet environment, comfortable rooms at all prices with air conditioning and with ventilator, I really liked that it is close to all restaurants, supermarkets, airport and land terminal, etc... highly recommended!

Oasis in the city

We first arrived at Casa Michael in the middle of the night. Michael himself helped our driver (from another city), navigate through the streets of Guayaquil. Then he helped us book flight to the Galápagos for the next morning, and when the airline unjustifiably tried  to charge us an extra fair,  he instantly arrived at the airport. 
We felt extremely safe to leave our heavy luggage and even our computer at  the hostel for ten days, and when we were back from the Galápagos, we received a warm welcome. The hostel is super clean,  beds are comfortable, there is very good a/c, hot water, and breakfast is good and served with a smile. You can also use the kitchen to cook your own meals.  In addition, the hostel is situated in a quiet street just off a main street with many shops and places to eat,  which felt very safe to walk around with kids even in the evening, and also a ten minute drive from the airport.   No doubt we would go back whenever we are in Guayaquil. 

A great hostel, close to the airport, in a safe environment and a very kind host

It's a little hard to find, but once you're there, its worth it! Staff are extremely nice and helpful and the hostel is very simple and comfortable and very affordable. Not far is lots of really cheap food

Great stay!

I was only in the hostel for one night. It was a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Normal standards for bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, all top! I arrived pretty late, but the owner waited extra and was very helpful.

It's such a relaxed hostel.

The attention of the staff is very good, at all times and the warmth that makes you feel welcome. I went for one night and ended up staying 2. The price is according to what was offered. Additionally they offer the towels free of charge, and with a cost of laundry service.

Sleeping in Ecuador

For work I had to spend the end of the year in Guayaquil, and Casa Michael was undoubtedly the best choice: good internet, resting places, garden sun loungers, small kitchen and a large TV room with netflix plus you can make many friends.

An excellent end of the year!

I was there for one night. Despite no electricity the owner try his best to make the best out of the situation (for example with music and candles). Next day I asked for the second night and I paid also. It was 12 am when a friend invited me spontaneously to his house and I wanted to check out so I asked him wether I can have the half or at least some of the money back. he promised me he would gave me the full amount back if he could sell the bed (9$). Two days later I texted him and he said he sold the bed for 5 $ because it was used (still from me of the first night) and that I can receive the money. So I got to the hostel to get the money. He just gave me 5$ (i expected 9$) and acted strange. I didn’t confront him because of his child and his wife were there. I don’t care about the 4 $, But what annoys me the most is that he ripped of the other customer because he received the money from him 5$ and additional 4 $ from me (for nothing) for a used/dirty bed. I don’t get it when people act sneaky when it comes to money. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel because as a matter of principle. 

Not flexible but still ok

I think most people stopover here for a night. It's conveniently near the airport and bus terminal terrestre. US$5 for a taxi or try to use Uber for half that price. The dorm room is a bit cramped and there are fans to try and cool the room. The bathrooms were clean and there was one shower with hot water. Good wifi, good net flix, nice area outside to chill but it is also the smoking area. The kitchen was disappointing, small and poorly equipped. I guess not many people cook, there are eating places nearby and also a big supermarket. They offer a speedy laundry service $2/kg.

Fine for a night

Michael is very hospitable and his guest house is also. Little patio to play ping pong, relax in the hammack and cook a small dinner. Very good price, climate for some rooms and fan for others. Michael is a good ping pong player but I could have beat him with a little practice on his table. He played at home so it must help!
