On a recent visit to this hotel, I was reasonably impressed with the dedication of the staff, the quality of the service and the overall atmosphere of the place.  The hotel is popular with Cubans and occupancy was at a reasonable level. The place was busy.

Some renovations have been going on and continue.   The pool has been modernized and the pool area was impressively clean, even with a large crowd in attendance. I could smell the chlorine.

The bar area beyond the reception was a popular spot. The bar staff were very polite and coped well under pressure.   The fellows at the check in desk were polite and helpful as well.

There is an Italian restaurant beyond the pool area that provides some basic Italian food at a reasonable price.   This provides an alternative to the hotel’s central dining room fare.

This hotel offers a budget alternative to other hotels in the Pinar del Rio /Vinales area. Room prices offered via pre-purchased voucher were reasonable.  

HOWEVER:

1.	Unless you fall in the 18-25 year old rage and are a reggaeton enthusiast, avoid the dive-bar discoteque at the side of the hotel.  It has the ambiance of a coal mine and is strictly for local kids. 

2.	The most drab aspect of the entire hotel is the central dining room on the second floor, that goes for the food offerings (other than the standard, drab breakfast) as well as the indifferent service there. This aspect needs much improvement.

Quiet Room exists at the Islazul Pinar del Rio! 

As I have noted some customers complained that Saturday night is Noisy on the Hotel because heavy sound can come from the dance floor. 

Please inform the reception and they are giving a quiet room to the latest floor. 

For the parking, two places exist, one with somebody watching your car or the second car park behind the building. We rather prefer the one one closed of the hotel. 

Many effort to refurbish the hotel are on going. Most of the rooms were refreshed but not only. The vaste swimming pool restoration is in progress. Last Many effort are also in progress to deliver good room standard to the customers.

If wrong note exist it's for the breakfast. The staff gives the lowest standard we had along our trip around the CUBA ouest side.

Customer Feedback

Stayed here for 3 nights to bird watch in the area.  The only restaurant was within the hotel, the other was being renovated.  The food was alright, rice, beans and a choice of fish,shrimp, chicken, beef or pork.  Sometimes the pork was good, other times not as tasty, the shredded beef was always good.  Breakfast was OK, fruit, eggs & bread, remember this is rural Cuba not Havana or a resort!  It was quiet when we were there.  A small band played one evening.  The room was basic but clean and everything worked. Not many sockets.  Wifi was intermittent. Unfortunately, there was an issue the first morning when a water pipe broke but this was fixed whilst we were out.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.

OK for a short stay

Once you leave the resort areas you need to manage your expectations for Cuban accomodations.  We found the staff to be very accommodating .  The room is somewhat Spartan, but had a toilet seat and toilet paper--which is sadly not that common in many areas that I visited.   We had to ask for soap and hand towels, but were granted them right away.  We were there on a Sunday/Monday stay while visitng family and it met our basic needs.   The lobby bar was decent--though very busy on sunday.  But was a nice break on Monday night.  We didn't have time to use the pool but found it in good condition when we were there.  There is a local night club near the pool that had some local singers on sunday night and we felt right at home.  And the prices were great!   I would agree that the restaurant is not very good.  Breakfast was awful, but there are a number of great cafe's within walking distance of the hotel.  If staying or more than one night--leave a small tip for the maid on your first night and she will bend over backwards to please you for the rest of your stay.  We received a lovely note from our maid, extra towels, extra soaps and specially made beds all for a $2 dollar tip.  They will also bring you an iron If you need it.   It's not luxurious by any means but we found it to be a decent place for a night or two that allowed us to be close to family.

Basic hotel at a good price

No Lights in the room, all bulb were broken, bar close at 9:00pm and not be able to ask for drinks, no coffee, no water, I ask for the janitor and none came I had to fix the light myself, poor meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner, once I ask for more  food and they told me meat only once, in general this is the first and last time I book this hotel, street dogs inside the hotel once they were drinking water from the swimming pool

The worst hotel I have been to

The service at the hotel is terrible.  The lights in the room did not work, when we arrived the pool in the children's part was green (literally), and the entire recreation area was very dirty.  The lobby bar, Saturday night, closed at 9, there is no service offered at that time, they do not sell anything.  I do not recommend this hotel.

Terrible Service

Don't know from where to start. At the check in, there was a lady in her mid 50's with a very bad attitude gave us a room in the lower floor which we said we did not like it. And the she gave us an upper floor but with her bad attitude. Rooms was just ok. Then at the pool bar you will meet with the bar-man , if I'm right I am pretty sure his name is Mario, what a bad attitude from this guy, if you ask for a scoop he says no, if you ask for a cup , he says no, if you ask him for anything he just turn his head from side to side, and don't even say a word, he shouldn't be working there or any place dealing with people. you will found the elevator which  is  full of garbage , papers, cigarettes, mold, and a very bad smell to dirty place " as it is".

Worst Place to Stay

This hotel was used as an overnight stay in my one day sojourn to Vinales/Pinar del Rio.
The Hotel's rooms are the bare minimum and frankly depressing, the bed sheets and pillows looked suspiciously dirty and the bed was really uncomfortable.

The central dining room is a disaster and the "food" if i can call it that... is even worse.
The happening spot is the bar next to the lobby but even that becomes a bit too much after an hour.. Loud drunk locals and young girls (jineteras) cuban slang for prostitutes... Offering themselves to men old enough to be their Abuelos ( grandfathers). Each to his own but this was a bit too much even for me.
I went to bed hungry that night and woke up with thoughts of an early morning swim before heading back to Havana..a quick survey of the unhygienic pool quickly scuppered my plan and it was off to Havana in the rental car that thankfully had not been broken into or having a part missing...this happens alot in Cuba.
Will probably never go back to this dive.. Oops....I meant " Hotel"
