One person close to her had this terrible experience that the hotel manager broke into the room in the morning to give her breakfast and took advantage of her sleeping to have sex with her, without her being able to prevent it.

Fraudulent fraud.

I wanted to stay in the downtown area to wander around the shops, bars, and restaurants of the city. This was very close in my search (just 2 blocks of ther main downtown street). It was the cheapest in town on my hotel app. I wanted to check our out before booking so I parked in front (free) and asked the staff (owner probably) about available rooms. She then slowed me 4 different rooms and gave me my choice. It was a few dollars LESS than on the "Pric[ier]" hotel app I found then on so i just booked directly with them.

The woman didn't speak much English but her daughter helped and she called someone who spoke perfect English to translate by speakerphone. Honestly se were doing fine with the Google Translate app  but she wanted to go the extra mile! It also included a great breakfast (which I didn't see on the app but she included when I asked her the rate!)

I would definately stay again!

A great place, great location and great staff!

This hotel was a beautiful place 50 years ago.  Today it need a lot of love and a great cleaning.  We had booked for 2 nights, and when we arrived, the owner offered us a musky (mouldy smelling) room with no window.  We asked for a room with a window which was provided, as there were no other guests staying there, though he led us to think he might not have such a room.  Our room had no glasses, no chairs, no lamp, no cups........pillows....lumps!  But the shower worked well with hot water, and bar soap was provided and hand towels. Make your own coffee in the morning in paper cups.

We are very disappointed at what was provided for the money we spent.



Very Limited

More than a hotel, these are adjoining rooms to a commercial and parking place. The location is very good, close to the main square, and not where indicated by the map on Tripadvisor. Housekeeping is acceptable. They do not serve breakfast. The staff was friendly and I was honestly advised. Since lodging prices are expensive in La Fortuna, I consider that you get what you pay for.

Correct cost-quality relationship, and good advice

This hotel was cheap.  Don't plan on staying in it for very long.  The bathrooms were dirty, sink was clogged, air conditioner barely worked, smelled nasty, puddles of water on the floor, white bugs crawling on me all night.  The plus side is that the owner was really nice to us and it was safe.  If somebody just put a little effort into it then this place could turn around.

What!?

Hotel El Volcan is about 2 blocks off the town square, convenient to dining and shopping. The property is clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the staff is helpful. The only complaint I have is that the room wasn't dark enough, between the sheer curtains and the light directly outside the window. The common area, with complimentary coffee, is a nice touch.

Comfortable, quiet, and convenient

At $50ish dollars a night it was worth it. The location was absolutely perfect, 5min walking from the heart of the town. The people who run the hotel were extremely friendly and were willing to answer all questions we had. The fact that they spoke english was a bonus. The rooms are basic and if you're picky about pillows and mattresses, then you might want to spend double the price on other accommodations. The washrooms werent great but we weren't there for the bathrooms. We would definitely go back. 

Basic but a good price 

Dirty and old towels, rusted and in poor condition bath utensils, cucaraches, no cleaning, just above, under the beds filled with dirt, a lot of noise from the outside in the rooms next to the street, of course, we were well received.

Low quality.

$30 a night, I'm always ready to help, very clean, air conditioned, super well located, private bathroom. If I go back to La Fortuna it's clear that I'm getting a room there again!

Excellent for the price!!

The hotel is close to the centre, the beds are comfortable and the air conditioning works well. It has parking but is always open, so don't leave your belongings in the car. The bathroom has no hot water and the area is very quiet. The price is the best in the region. Ideal for couples or small group of backpackers. It has a community oven and refrigerator, which is useful because only the supermarkets in the city sell alcoholic beverages in the morning.
