We booked a morning kayak up the estuary and it was an extraordinary tour full of natural history and phenomenal birds and quiet.  Sylvia is incredibly knowledgeable and has poured her heart and decades of labor into the conservation of this place.  Her English was impeccable and she was very encouraging in helping us practice our Spanish.  If you love birds, peaceful waters and natural history, this tour comes highly recommended!

Incredible kayaking experience!

Highly recommend a kayaking trip with Sylvia to the local Junquillal estuary! My family and I did one and we all really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful side of this Costa Rica ecological zone. Sylvia is super knowledgable. We learned a ton not only about the estuary about the local community and area as well. Pura vida!

Awesome kayaking tour and great hotel

Sylvia is one of the best hosts I have ever met. She is incredibly laid-back and meeting her feels like you've been friends for years. The hotel itself is beautiful (especially the rooftop) and is a very short walk to town and to the beach. When you visit, I highly recommend looking into The Turtle Project in town. Overall this was one of my favourite stays in Costa Rica and I will definitely be back.

Just like home!

Nice welcome and good stay in El Castillo Divertido. Nice room, balcony with garden view, fan but no air conditioning, sdb. A superb rooftop terrace with Pacific view, garden and forest, small kitchen with outdoor fridge, bar. Lunch a little light. But Silvia is really lovely and the place is very nice and very well maintained. The beautiful and deserted beach is 100m away, with turtle nursery, full of activities are offered by Sylvia, and there is a restaurant in a 300m completely affordable restaurant that serves both resort and intercontinental food, with a local bar in a nice quality environment.

This is SUCH a wonderful to place I am hesitant to publicize it!  If I could LIVE at any of the 15 hotels I had the pleasure of visiting while in Costa Rica, this would be it.  To begin with, the building itself is rather spectacular.  Built by a German man and his Tica wife, it has such intriguing features as colorful plaster walls, a cool tiled entryway with a large table outside, and a rooftop that must be seen to be appreciated.  The exterior walls have those openings like a castle has, there is a large round bar area, a great hammock area, and more.  The gardens are lovingly tended and are beautiful. 
   The owner (the wife) lives in a cabina on the grounds and is expert at being present without inserting herself into the moment.  I could have visited with her for many more days.  She would sit and have with us after serving us a delightful breakfast of eggs, fruit, toast, and wonderful coffee (of course).  She took us on an excursion into the mangrove in her flat-bottomed boat and helped us understand what we were seeing in a totally unassuming way.  
   The beach is an easy walk from the house and there were sights to see and  restaurants in the area.  It was quite warm during our stay, and while the room was not air conditioned, the ceiling fan kept it tolerable for sleeping.  One of the best parts of our stay here was that early in the morning we began hearing the howler monkeys.  They can be heard from 3 Km away, but I would run up to the roof to watch and hear them play and move about in the trees.  It was simply magical.  You could see the Pacific Ocean from up there, so the sunrise, the clouds, the monkeys and the sea breeze were all the stuff of which memories are made.  I hope my photos do it justice.

My favorite place to stay during a one-month adventure.

This ‘castle’ has a fantastic roof top patio with hammock and chairs, it offers a great sunset view. The rooms are basic but were just fine for us. THe birds and howler monkeys offered us a real treat of sounds.  Sylvia our host was laid back, interesting and she took us on a fantastic kayak trip down the river. (A must!)  It’s a 5 min walk from the castle to a 3 .5 km beach. Great body surfing. Leathback turtles lay their eggs on this beach.  Such a positive and relaxing stay we had on Playa Junquillal. Highly recommend it!

Relaxing, beautiful, and with a great host!

The stay in the Fun Castle has been incredibly good: -the hostess Silvia is very kind, a great personal treat (taking a few imperial ones on the terrace at the liz de las estrellas a pleasure to chat with her and her friend). -the site is great, decorated with great taste, in an idyllic place, spacious and clean rooms.

In front of a quiet and beautiful beach, we met this fun castle and its warm, friendly and respectful owner. The great rooms, everything clean, a beautiful terrace we enjoyed with an imperial and the pleasant conversation of silvia and her friend. How to be at home, surrounded by the tuyos, but in a paradise. Everything was phenomenal!!!! 😍 Thank you for the hospitality and for believing that you can still do something good and beautiful by giving your best and offering your home and lifestyle to the rest of the world.

This hotel is very close to Junquillal Beach, an immense volcanic sandy beach on the Pacific Ocean, close to other beaches in the area but still isolated and beautiful, unspoiled. The owner Silvia welcomed us very cordially as if we were family. I enjoyed a beautiful kayak ride on a river among the mangroves, with her as a guide, where we spotted eagles, martin fishermen, iguanas... A beautiful nature! Small rooms, clean, original environment. Included. Wi-Fi free but only working in the hall. Price.

Excellent location near one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, warm welcome

It was an awesome experience we made a friend for life with Silva and Nathan! Great host! Bk was superb! The room clean so close to the beach..theirs no real words to describe our adventure in Junquillal. Silvia treated us like family a place we will visit for years to come. We highly recommend this place..
