Caleta Tortel could be a dream place with its houses set on the slopes of the bays and a pedestrian walk along almost 2 km of the caletas. Unfortunately, it's a carefree, deteriorating, dirty place and its unfriendly inhabitants.

A place that could be a nightmare.

Sometimes the advertisements on specialized pages generate higher expectations, which plays counter to it.The cabins (2) are rustic and in that concept perfectly meet, clean, bed and bathroom clean.The merits of the place are borne by the hospitality of the owners (Miriam and Patricio), both passionate about Aysen, absolute connoisseurs of the area, customs and potential.An extremely pleasant environment to share with them.Perhaps a few details of infrastructure would make this place something excellent in all respects.Very good experience.

A distinctive, novel and interesting experience....Today with the expectations.

The cabin, just two, are located between Puerto Guadal and Puerto Tranquilo, by the lake General Carrera. It is a wonderful place, with a lot of trees and beautiful views, although the cabin doesn't have direct view to the lake.
The owner, Miriam, lives there and she is always available for helping you, even to suggest places to visit. She also serves dinner at the dining room that is a separate cabin. We stayed just one night and we had dinner there, it was very well prepared, it was like a family dinner. The breakfast was okay.
The cabin was very basic and needs to be improved. The finishing is too basic, with bad finishing and at a very low standard. The bathroom has broken ceramics, not enough light, the shower curtain is hanging in a wood stick, the floor of the room has some cracks, and the mattress was uncomfortable.
There is a beautiful small beach by the lake within the property, it is wonderful. It is protected of the wind, and you can swim on the clear water of the lake. For me it was very cold, so I just have a short swimming. It is usually around 40 to 50ºF, but it was sunny so you can resist for a while. The beach is about 15 minutes’ walk through a small hill.
Be prepared for the mosquitos. There are a lot of them, and they will bite you for sure if you don’t use repellent.
With a better infrastructure it could be an excellent alternative to stay there and visit a lot of other places in the area.

Good location, regular cabin

The cabanas (only 2) are located between Puerto Tranquilo and Puerto Guadal, in a very nice setting on the shores of Lake General Carrera.They are very simple cabanas, without many amenities, but functional, their main problem is the isolation, as they are very cold although they have a good greenhouse that partially mitigates the above.In addition to the aforementioned environment, highlights the good attention of the hosts, very dedicated and friendly, who make you feel at home.They have a very cozy and comfortable dining room where you can enjoy a very good breakfast and dinner prepared by the owner of the place.In short, a place attended by very good hosts that if Miriam's cabanas were a better base would be an ideal place to visit all the attractions of the area.
