There's a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean waiting for you here. Then you go into the rooms. These are just like the whole hotel has come of age, and you feel like the owner has reached an age where it's no longer possible to control the property. He's very friendly and helpful, but that's not all you'd expect from a hotel. We booked a night and we're happy to continue our journey. Right now we're still waiting for breakfast, then we go to the mountains.

Coming into the years

From a small impasse like this can happen (the agency wanted to make a transfer, the hotel only accepts checks) the hotel refused us entry, treating us like thieves! refusing even to take the agency on the phone and demanding only one thing: our immediate payment. (while we were going to stay for 3 days with our two daughters...) Everywhere else we would have been told settle down and we would have a solution. But here we are taken from above, without confidence, sometimes to the point of insult... I have never experienced this anywhere else and yet we live a lot and we have all kinds of printed hats.

There are so many people who welcome the green cap.

This was the first hotel we stayed at in Cape Verde. When we arrived around 1am, the owner (who speaks fluent French and is very friendly) was away and we had to wait for a good quarter of an hour. He showed us a room on the floor that was meant for us. Except that the air conditioning didn't work when we had specifically asked for it. He then offered us another room, with a wonderful climate this time that worked, located downstairs but not ready. He prepared it for us... However, for an hour (to make 2 beds and 3 beds). The cleanliness was average, cold for the bedroom.

A quiet place to start in Cape Verde

A lovely place with a frame out of a postcard.Useful and French-speaking owner but - cleanliness and cleaning of the room approximate - medium quality meals and small deej and poor quality price ratio at this level there.

A little disappointing.

A simple room but with a little bit of decoration  old-fashioned . A swimming pool with ocean view and a small cove just below the hotel. Attention, hotel 1500 m from the centre of Cidade Velha.

Simple and clean

This is a small 8 bedroom family hotel located about a mile from Cidade Velha.  There is a swimming pool at the hotel and a small rocky beach below the hotel.  Rooms are adequate and air-conditioned. Other than breakfast, food is not included in the price but is cooked to order.  There is a small bar by the pool. It is a peaceful place and at night it is just you and the stars.  It's somewhere to go if you want to get away from it all.  Owner is knowledgeable and helpful.

Pros:

- Good value
- Fresh food cooked to order
- Quiet and peaceful
- Great views
- Taxis to Praia are fairly cheap

Cons:

- A bit out of town.  You need to hire a car or are otherwise dependent on taxis
- Meals are quite expensive by Cape Verde standards
- No shops or other facilities nearby even in Cidade Velha
- Pool is cold
- Beach is rocky and hard on the feet.
- There are quite a lot of mosquitoes at night

Peaceful hideaway

The hotel is very well situated in front of the sea with a small private cove. The boss is charming and speaks very well French. Very hospitable, he makes himself available to you to make your stay pleasant. The rooms facing the sea are comfortable with a functional bathroom. On the other hand, breakfast is very light. Although it is possible to have eggs, otherwise no jam, fruit, charcuterie, or cereal... that is the reproach that can be made to this hotel. 60€ the room with breakfast alone. Recommendation

Nice quiet hotel by the sea

I don't give a 1 point rating easily. But then... I've never left a hotel early. We booked this hotel for 6 nights and left after the first. Not that everything was terrible. Just nothing was right. I don't have high expectations of hotels in countries like Cape Verde but this one was even below my "as long as I have a bed and a good shower I'm fine" mentality.  

It started when we arrived: the hostess did not even say hello, just started talking to the taxidriver. I assumed she didn't speak English and wanted him to translate, but later it turned out she did speak english. It was also the taxidriver (!) who showed us to our room.  A room that was in terrible shape. The window was loose in its frame, so it kept rattling in the stark Atlantic wind. The shower had no hot water - though they fixed it soon enough, compliments to that. But even with hot water I was hardly able to shower because apparently the showehead hadn't been cleaned in a long time and only gave a very small needle-thin water spray. It felt like being tortured with small pins. 

After a not so good night's rest (the bed was terrible, you could feel the springs through the mattress, every move I made would wake op my girfriend and vice versa, the matress was covered in wat looked like a sheet made out of paper, like the throw-away nurses caps) we came down for breakfast at 9:00. To be presented with the next disappointment. Maybe in this hotel breakfast is not served until 9AM, but I wouldn't know becuase the hostess had not informed us of anything and there was no info sheet in the room. But 9 seems like a reasonable time for breakfast, 

Breakfast is buffet style, but all we could find on the table were 4 bread buns (enough for the 2 of us, but could we assume all the other guests had already eaten)? some slices of cheese and slices of spam. An empty dish that used to contain some jam but was now empty and an almost empty buttercup. Upon asking for some more butter and jam the answer was a simple "finished". 

This was the last drop for us and we decided to move into the much better - despite the reviews - hotel Limeira. Which is a lot closer to the town center, another plus. From Por do Sol it's a half hour walk, or during daytime you can get a Alugers  (local bus) or taxi. At night there are no other options than to walk.

When we were taking our suitcases out we saw the hostess and informed her that we were leaving. Her reaction? Just "OK", as if it is completely normal for guests to leave early. When tried to explain our reasons for leaving she got really angry, not wanting to listen and interrupting me before I could explain anything. 

I you are a masochist I can really recommend this place, otherwise stay far away!

Left after 1 night

A stay during a tour. The hotel has a wonderful location. From the clean indoor pool you can see the Atlantic. The room was clean. The breakfast is more spartan (like in most Cape Verde hotels, terrible margarine, a kind of sausage, a kind of cheese, marmalade, dry cake, miriegelei, diluted juice). The dinner, however, was very good (as almost everywhere there was fish). In the bay below the hotel, the bath is really only recommended for very experienced swimmers (I think it's worth a visit and had trouble getting back into it).

Top location, friendly service

The lack of cleanliness of the room (No.1) overshadowed everything: the toilet bowl was contaminated with the remains of the previous user, the toilet goggles were full of stains. The latter also applied to the beds: in the large double bed there were various stains on both the bedcloth and on the bedcloth, the mattress of the single bed added to the room was completely contaminated. And in the refrigerator grew black mold.
