We booked a month in advance for our vacation...would have preferred doing it through a secure website, but the guy at the front desk said we would only be able to book parking if we did it over the phone.  We did that, got an email confirmation, and when we arrived after driving 9 hours from the States and crossing an international border, we found out they gave our room away!

But even worse was their idea for fixing their enormous goof-up: they called another guest house in the area and found us a room there.  We went there and found out that the room was basically a large closet (no windows) with a bed, toilet and shower, located next to where they keep their trash and washers/dryers.  Why didn't they just call a decent hotel or B&B and pay the difference?  

So not only are they extremely unorganized, they are cheap and do not value their guests.  Luckily we found a place and did not wind up on the street, but we very nearly did because of the folks at Global Guest House.

THEY LOST OUR RESERVATION.

We booked this guesthouse on hotels.com for our overnight stay in Toronto, the pictures and description looked good on the website so got a huge shock on our arrival. The building was very grotty and enterence and hallway grubby and dirty. Our room was musty and there was no running water in wash hand basin I had to brush my teeth in the bath which was also very dirty. The bedside light didn't  work. All in all a very bad experience not to be repeated it spoiled our visit to a beautiful city

Worst place we have every stayed

Very early turn of the century building. A very home like feeling. Very pleasent staff. room was very cozy. subway and street car terminal is right next door. decent size room with private bathroom. There is parking but limited on site. There is city paid paid parking ( actually cheaper than expected) next to the building. Good so far.

Surprisingly delightful

We booked their last minute found it at a decent price online. Initially it wasn't so bad, decent location right beside spadina subway station.  They do not offer parking. But there is a lot right beside  $5 overnight max amount from 6pm-7am and $9 max during the day from 7am-6pm. They offer a small kitchenette microwave fridge water kettle instant coffee and tea. The morning we woke up and we did find a bed bug on our pillow. We were pretty sure it was dead but treated as Alive with the stuff we brought home. So be weary and check the bed prior to sleeping !

Never going back

Booked this last minuet to stay here with my boyfriend as we were in the area for a concert! And it's such a cute little place! Very friendly staff, lovely room, we had a shared bathroom but it wasn't as bad as I imagined was very very clean and tidy! Can't complain we paid $95 CAD for two people for one night and it was very good value for money! After we checked out we stayed in the little breakfast room to have something to eat and drink before we left :) was very lovely

Small old rooms in an old house. Common bathroom and toilet at the end of the hall. Noisy air conditioning. Small kitchen (microwave and refrigerator, boiler, dishwasher) convenient. The two supposed parking spaces are never available, you have to use the paid parking next door (3$/hour). Very well placed for public transport and close to some museums.

Only the location is interesting.

If you're going to visit Toronto and want to save a little money on accommodation, this is the place to go.This guest house is conveniently located near the Spadina subway station (which is very convenient during the winter).Additionally, you can find all kinds of restaurants, pharmacies, supermarkets very close by.This guest house has comfortable rooms, shared bathrooms and also private rooms.There is a small kitchen where you can serve all the tea, chocolate and water you want.You can shop at one of the nearby supermarkets and prepare your own breakfast.In the guest house, therefore, you can't cook meals.The kitchen has a host and a micro-host.My stay at this place was quiet and I recommend the entire refrigerated room that you had visited before, and I believe that if you can't smoke a cigarette, you can't stay in the hotel room in Toronto, etc. If you're staying in the hotel, you can't stay in the hotel room, and if you're not staying in the hotel, you can't stay in the hotel room in Toronto, etc.

Very good!

More than 50 bed bug bites scattered over my daughter's body' The owner rented us the room when he was warned of this invasion in his hotel. On the other hand the old air conditioning was very noisy. The bathroom was stress-correct.

Bed bugs

My girlfriend and I spent 1 night between 10th and 11th September 2012. Good location for both visiting the city (if you have good legs!), and for transferring by metro to and from the airport, the metro and bus stop is 10m away, so if you don't want to walk 45-50 minutes to get to the CN tower it's very comfortable, but it's so close that the night for those who have light sleep could turn out to be a problem, for us it wasn't because we were almost asleep and because at 5:30 we were already awake to enjoy the city! Our room, although not very annoying, was very comfortable and clean, as well as the private bathroom, is very comfortable and clean. One thing about the hotel is that you've got the same beautiful kitchen and you can't sleep in the same room, and you can't really have a great view of the entire city, but we can't really help you if you've got a very nice, comfortable and very nice room!

OVER the expectations and OVER the metro stop

I only stayed one night in this hostel. It was fine, especially the size of the room (in a rather old style), the hospitality and cleanliness of the bathroom (in the hallway). The subway is right next door (Spadina station, less than 10 minutes from the city center, so very convenient). You just have to know that breakfast is not served, but the hostel has a kitchen.
