We thought it would be fun to go back to where we went, but it was very disappointing. The front desk staff were NOT helpful. Parking is a nightmare. The hallways are depressing. Towels are small and course. The bottom sheet was too small for the bed. Cafeteria and common room were under renovation.

Basically disappointing

Staff super nice. This place is filthy.  No food service open. The only alternative is a kitchen- that residents are supposed to keep clean- without any paper towels, cloths, or soap. The fridges are closed. There are no dishes or pots and pans. Counters and stove are filthy. Showers filthy. Carpet in hallway filthy. Laundry room smelly like mildew. Can’t beleive parents pay for the kids to stay here…. Also someone should call Toronto public health

Friendly staff, residence is a cess pool

Well, it's a student residence, not a five-star hotel. And for a student residence it's right: clean, reasonably comfortable and very well located (in the middle of the city, close to good restaurants and cafes, not far from museums and the Ontario Parliament).

Very good when you travel alone.

I've seen the ratings of this place and the TripAdvisor reviews and, frankly, I'm glad I didn't read them before my trip: they don't feel sorry for the place!!! Well, I didn't have any options, I was going to study at the University for the summer. In fact, I didn't know that New College was a passenger accommodation and was on TripAdvisor, but I found it by accident. New College is very nice, the rooms are comfortable, yes, they don't have luxuries and the bathroom is shared, but it's clean and it's great for staying at the university... the only inconvenience (I hope for my taste), was the type of mattress. Food in the restaurant is a buffet type and there are many excellent options to choose from. The attention on the front desk is good and best of all, and you can definitely find a full-fledged walk through the Spadina Street (Trinity Street), which is a few minutes' walk from the University of Toronto, and a few minutes' walk from the University of New York to the University of Toronto, which is worth a few

 Comfortable, clean, friendly.

Just had my 2nd stay at the University Residence Hall - it was perfect and really easy on my budget!  This time I brought my own pillow - and also some food as they do have a shared kitchen area with a fridge that you can use.  There's also a TV with netflix - and I wound up watching a movie early one morning before I headed out for touring.  I drove there and both times used their parking facility two buildings over - but learned this time that you can keep pushing the "max time" button on the machine to book multiple days for your car to be parked so that you don't have to get up at 5:30 a.m. to get a new sticker in your car window by the 6:00 a.m. departure time.  Between parking for my car and the room fee, I wound up staying there for 2 nights/3 days for only $140 - which is awesome.  If you really don't spend a lot of time in your room and don't need much - these room options are fantastic.  The location is so close to everything and I felt very safe there the entire time.  Kings Noodles - about 3-4 blocks down on Spadina has great food at also very reasonable prices - I can't wait to go back again - Toronto is a wonderful City!

Great Inexpensive Option - Conveniently Located

The reception is not in the same building, but it's across the street. I arrived at 1 p.m. and was only able to start my check-in at 3 p.m. while the check-out is at 11 p.m., which means the day only has 20 hours. I didn't like the reception, the first reason I didn't get a top grade. My room was private. I stayed on the 8th floor, overlooking the campus (the university town is huge, a neighborhood). They're about 30 rooms per floor. There's a men's and another women's bathroom. The men's bathroom was always clean, as well as all the facilities. There's no room cleaning service during your stay and your bedding isn't changed (I stayed 5 meters), another bar doesn't take a top grade. No credit. No credit, they're a third bar, but I don't like to shop. There's a good reason to save a nice coffee shop near the corner of the Chinatown (except 7am), and there's a good reason to compare a good location to a nice

It could be better.

It's a great value for what you get, especially for sports teams. Players loved the common room and being able to hang out together. For us coaches, the double room was huge compared to other dorm rooms, super clean, and had an awesome view of the CN tower. Breakfast is a little expensive ($9) but not outlandish, especially considering the room cost. 

Only tip is to bring ear plugs or head phones when in a double as we woke each other up rolling over.

Good Value

I've stayed at the New College Residence for four years in a row now and its always a great experience. It is so close to everything, the Spadina 510 streetcar has a stop literally right in front of the building, you can walk up to Bloor Street in under five minutes and there's a ton of places to eat, Kensington Market is also a very close walk, and getting down to the waterfront just hop on the streetcar and you're there in no time. Everyone at the front desk is always very friendly and helpful, you can even buy tokens there to ride the TTC. Granted it's a dorm, so as long as you expect that and everything that comes with it (shared common bathrooms, creaky beds, small rooms) it's just fine, and when you're out doing stuff all day and really just need a place to sleep at night its perfect.

Awesome value

If you just need a bed to crash on after a long day touristing, this is the place to stay! Nice, simple room, with a clean bathroom located in the corridor. Super friendly front desk staff and good breakfast for only CAN $10. If you're a light sleeper, be sure to bring a sleeping mask, because the curtain is very thin. Location is excellent and there's a tram station exactly in front of the building.

Great stay for a budget traveler

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. We had booked a private room with two beds . The room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable and big. 
The bathrooms are centrally located and are cleaned twice daily. 
The hostel provides free drinking water . Very close to the Bus stops and shopping area .
