We visited the place back in 2016, the atmosphere was lovely and the rooms very comfy. Would come back without hesitation!
The breakfast was included, with Johan or his travelling helpers (workaway). Very helpful to start the day with Montreal travelling tips. 

Unforgettable 

The cottage is well situated on the plateau. 10min walking distance from Laurier metro station. We occupied a four-bedroom, very spacious and overlooking course, so quiet. I think one room overlooks the boulevard. There are 2 bathrooms to share between all occupants. The one on the ground floor is a shower room + WC rather small. And a very large basement bathroom with shower + bathtub + laundry and dry laundry. The reception is friendly, the little dej are free to serve in the common kitchen which overlooks a small wooded courtyard. The Minus nobody was open to us in the cottage at the agreed cleaning. The time of the bathroom and bathrooms is goodbye.

Well located

We arrived at the end of June for 3 nights. We were in the double room with private bathroom We enjoyed taking our little dej on the terrace which was private because we were alone in this beautiful house!!!! Too good!!!

We loved it!

We spent two nights in the city lodge last summer. There was no need to complain, the reception, the rooms, the breakfast, everything was in line with what was written in other comments.

Quiet and well-kept bed

It's one of those charming Montreal flats with stained glass doors and pillars and century old heat radiators. We had the benefit of having the entire place for ourselves for one night and didn't have to share the one bathroom with other parties. So, we liked it and appreciated a hearty self-help breakfast.  The location is great and most points of interest are in walking distance.  So, all in all a good place to stay for a few nights and perhaps you will meet some other interesting fellow travelers.

We had a pleasant week, the hostel is very well located, the Laurier subway is very easily accessible and pleasant to live in; Jo is a discreet, available and really friendly host; we will return without hesitation!

Like at home.

We loved our room it was very nice and space was real good, nice service from Jo, it feels like home .... the neighborhood is really nice and quite ... only bad thing is that sometimes you can hear a lot of noise from the upper floor (but I guess that’s something the management can’t avoid a 100%) ... def would visit again if I visit Montréal 

Beautiful house/location

We found the place in the routard's guide, a good address in a nice neighborhood. The nearest metro station is a five-minute walk away, the room was clean and quiet, the perfect terrace for morning coffee. We'll be back in the winter:)

The floor we stayed in has four guest rooms, each can host one family up to four people, but the entire floor has only one bathroom with shower built in.  It is easy to imagine the chaos when it comes to early morning or bed time.  When I gave a "not very good" review on another website about the place, the owner first sent me an email demanding the explanation.  When he did not get reply from me because he uses Hotmail and it landed in my Yahoo email junk box, he then sent me another very rude email.  Will never stay there, and never recommend to anyone.

While La Lanterne advertises itself as a "cottage B&B", its vibe is closer to an upscale hostel rather than a traditional B&B (although it is priced higher than a hostel).  The great advantage it has is its wonderful location--within a short walk to both the Metro and the restaurants and bars of Mont Royal Street.  Also, free on-street parking is available (although not easy to find).  We booked the room with a private bath (the bathroom was excellent), although it only had a double bed and not a queen.  The property is clean, but not spotless.  The self-serve kitchen is available 24/7, but the one common table on has six chairs, which is a problem at breakfast time when the place is full (although there are two tiny tables on the outside terrace  if the weather is good). No bagels, pastries, eggs or meat were offered (although you can always buy your own at the supermarket).  Our room (and the rest of the place) was furnished in a utilitarian manner and the ceiling light fixture was broken our entire stay and the another fixture went on and off as the halogen bulb overheated.  Although linen and toiletries are advertised on the website, no toiletries are actually offered (as confirmed by Jo) and there was no linen service during our 6 day stay (although they did exchange towels with us after 3 days when we requested fresh towels).  Also, our room was situated so that conversations and movement in the kitchen and adjoining rooms (and overhead) were audible.  Since we were away at the Rogers Cup tennis tournament every day, none of this particularly affected our stay.  As a hostel, I would give 5 stars, but as a B&B only 4.
