Medicine Hat

We visited Medicine Hat for 25 days of stay, and we have spent most of the time staying at Medicine Hat Suites. They are now our favourite hotel whenever we are again visiting the place. The rooms are really clean and spacious, with bathroom having all modern facility like tub and shower. 

The best thing about this property location, is that they are near to the trans-Canada highway and we didn't need to travel a lot to find the motel.

Best Motel in Medicine Hat for long stay

Huge room with kitchenette.
Separate bedroom, which was comfortable but plain and the bed was small.
It was a long walk to the main complex for check-in and breakfast.
Staff were friendly and helpful when we had to depart one day early.

Great Value, especially if you want to prep some meals yourself

Price was fantastic!   
All the staff encountered were very friendly including the bar which has a great menu!

Highly recommend 

Stayed here as the price was good. Some small issues with the room such as small holes in the wall and bath mat stuck to the bottom of the tub, but the beds and room were really good. Free breakfast along with hot tub/waterslide pool makes it worth it for the price. 

Decent for the Price

Rooms bedding was not clean asked for them to be changed after an hour and half went to front desk to get clean sheets and made our own beds’ floor mat had not seen a washer in a while, make up was on the pillow case

Not a good experience

We were pleasantly surprised when checking in to this hotel.  It is an older property that has been fully renovated and upgraded.  Our suite contained a full kitchenette, seating and tv area, and two double beds.  It was clean and well appointed.  We appreciated that it was set back from the main road and thus very quiet.  Best value in Medicine Hat - highly recommended.

Great value

We stayed in Room 102, wow this place was a real surprise, it has all been totally redone and the room we stayed in was beautiful. It was a suite with two queen beds in the back, a kitchen area with hot plate and full fridge, there was also a couch with a pull out and a table with a couple of chairs. It was nicely decorated and fresh. The only funny thing we found is that the room and bathroom had all been nicely redone but they left the old bathtub in place and it was pretty beat up (minor detail).

You had to pay at the Travel Lodge which was a 2 minute walk to get to, you could also use the pool at the Travel Lodge and have the free breakfast there as well. 

This place is nicely located beside a A/W restaurant and right across from the Whiskey Creek Saloon which had a very good menu and super friendly staff.

The cost for our room was $80, which for four of us was very reasonable!

We will be staying here again for sure.

Room 102, May 11, 2019

I waved goodbye to 518 South and 'Big Col's' exposed brown balloon knot and headed for the Hat.  I knew this would be a good weekend to escape Camp Crowfoot.  If my previous nights sleep was anything to go by then this would be one of the best decisions I'd made this side of the 2016 Brexit referendum, in fact maybe even this side of 9/11.  Some feller had been up until 4 a.m on a solo drunken conquest and I was at breaking point.  I just had to get out.

Cue Medicine Hat Suites.  Originally chosen for its proximity to A&W the two-storey building looked like a crime scene from a Hollywood thriller.  I was beginning to wonder if I'd made a mistake by booking the cheapest room trivago had to offer and on entering the room my heart sank further.  The breezeblock construction was a friendly reminder of the jail like conditions of 518.  What on earth had I done? 

I took 'dibs' on the queen bed in the right hand corner and this is where things took a turn for the better.  The sensation of resting my body on a non 'piss proof' mattress and my head on a pillow that wasn't made from plastic was simply exquisite.  I felt like an emperor. 

The Gideons bible in the bedside table was a further comfort blanket (despite the fact it had been defaced by some reckless atheist) and a feeling of contentment radiated through my core.  As I rolled over to my left I was convinced that things couldn't get much better but brace yourself fellers.  

JACKPOT.  There were four, yes FOUR plug sockets... (gen)... and they were ALL for me.  I frantically raced to my luggage for my electronic devices and within 12 seconds I was drawing amps like they were going out of fashion.  My HR peaked at 171 BPM with all the excitement and I had to take a knee.

"Marc, throw me a beer, we're celebrating" I called.  

"En route" he replied almost instantaneously.  

Maybe this is what it feels like to win the EuroMillions I thought and with that I tanned half a tin of Sin Bin Red Ale and retired back to the bed to use the free wireless internet.  I ran a standard speed test which peaked at 62.24 Mbps which, out of interest is 62.24 Mbps quicker than anything I'd seen in Crowfoot.  I preceded to pinch myself to ensure this wasn't one of those sick twisted dreams. It wasn't.

So here I am.  Not in a 50 man room.  Spacious 3 man suite.  Comfortable bed.  A shower I don't have to concurrently share with 12 blokes (one of which is always hung like a thoroughbred).  A toilet not made from aluminium and internet which works.  At 0530 tomorrow morning I won't have to listen to those boxes being dragged across a tiled floor either.  

I'm sure it won't be long before I find something to whinge about but I'm a squaddie.  That's what I do.  But right now, right now in this exact moment as I type these words, even though I'm $60 a night lighter for the privilege, I want you all to know how I feel.

I feel like I've f**king made it in life.
