All said in the title. Especially very central in the middle of Restaurants, cafes and bars. IF you stay there do not miss the Hemingway restaurant directly opposite the hotel. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Drawbacks: Very basic - minimal breakfast with "plastic" cheese in a country offering so many types of excellent and inexpensive cheese types. They definitely have to look at this again...

Affordable, Central, Clean, Spacious

Located in the pedestrian zone, on a side street, this hotel is a good location for touring. A 10 minute walk through the shopping district brings you to the start of the old town. Car parking is an 8 minute walk in the opposite direction in a large pay per hour or day monitored lot. 

The morning brought some noise with movement along the cobbled street. Breakfast is in a small basement pub style room and was OK at best.

The room was large and comfortable with a wet room for a shower. There is a refrigerator in the room.

Helpful hint - GPS will take you to the nearest dead end street where you can unload your bags before walking in to the hotel, but beware of the hovering parking warden.

Lovely hotel, good location

The Hotel Romantica is a nice enough hotel with spacious rooms and good value for the budget traveller, but the best thing about this small hotel is not even part of the establishment. It's the restaurant across the road which is rated number one in Plovdiv.  When we booked the hotel, we had no idea the food experience would trump everything else. I guess that's for another review on food, but it's worth mentioning in this review! (The place is called Hemingway and we ate there every night.) In any event, the other good thing about the Romantica, is the view from the small balcony IF you get the double room (we were 3 people) and then you have a section of the old Roman City to gaze upon under a full moon. Nice extra!  The downside? Breakfast at the Romantica (which was included in the price) was two forks down. Bad coffee, processed cheese, cold eggs and served "buffet" style in a dark basement room. If they could improve on that, then it would be a winner.

The Surprise is Across the Road...

We chose this hotel because of the good rating it had among most websites we looked at while selecting. Well, the location is about all there is to it. It is 50 m. away from the main pedestrian street. Besides this fact, we were very disappointed. First of all, when we got to the hotel, a note on the main office door said the reception was in the restaurant. It took about 5 minutes and a visit to the hotel next door to find the restaurant: absolutely no clues as to where it is! I pointed this out to the lady (who was quite polite actually) and advised her to maybe put a sign or something directing one to the restaurant. Just to make it funnier, we got lost again the next morning, for breakfast. :)
The room: very dark, very cold! The weather during our stay was good (about 17 degrees) but I can't imagine what it feels like in the winter time. We had to keep the air conditioner on at all times. It turned out that there were a total of 3 guests (we made up 2 of them), so they could have easily planned a better room for us. The bathroom was tiny and the shower was higher than I could reach without standing on my toes.
The breakfast: little choice of cold items and NO milk. If you want to have milk in your coffee you have to pay 1 lv. for 200 ml.!

No chance of a second visit!

Hotel Romantica is in a side street off the main drag.  It faces almost directly onto the remains of the Roman odeon and also has several decent restaurants nearby.  As such it is very well positioned.

We received an nice welcome and all the staff were very pleasant during our stay.  The rooms are spacious and relatively well maintained (although one can find points to carp at if so inclined - stain on carpet, room not properly serviced one day).

The main drawbacks were the noise levels and the breakfast.  Staying on the ground floor (junior suite) next to the entrance there is an inevitable amount of passing traffic noise within and without.  We also got a lot of noise from the room above (that woke us up and kept us awake).  The breakfast is a fairly restricted choice of cold items plus toast, no fruit juice, indifferent coffee   (on our last morning we went out to eat elsewhere)

The room has an air-conditioning unit (not needed when we were there) and a fairly good TV selection for international travellers.  The wifi was good.

For the price it was a reasonable stay.  OK for a day or two but no more.
