It's the World Cup, places are at a premium, we booked in at this place and we were actually surprised. 

Breakfast was decent, staff friendly but no English. Rooms clean and decent with balcony and kitchen. 

The shower however did electric shock my room mate, but that's common in Brazil. 

The area around it is shabby. It's like an experiment gone wrong. I would hate to live there. I really hope they sort it all out. 

The Beech is awful. Literally like a bombs dropped, but everyone seems oblivious.

But the hotel is fine.
I'd stay there again. But I doubt my life will ever end up there again.

It's a budget option

This was my second stay in six months at the Quatro Rodas. Please note that it is no longer a Parthenon property, but is now an Astron property that apparently is under the same corporation as Howard Johnson. Anyway, this is a simply wonderful hotel in Olinda -- the only really nice hotel on the beach. It is located at one end of the boardwalk in Olinda. Note this is not in the old part of Olinda. The hotel is a large apartment building with approximately 20-25 hotel rooms. The hotel rooms are the same as the studio apartments, so each room has a small full kitchen. Other in-room amenities include a safe, balcony, AC, TV with cable, etc. The rooms are of a very high quality, with granite countertops, wonderful large showers and nice bathrooms, and nice decorations. There is a small breakfast buffet for hotel guests each morning. As there are very few hotel rooms, the front desk staff has plenty of free time to help you. They are very nice and helpful and several speak some English. They will help you get taxis and recommend sights and restaurants. The hotel offers a computer with Internet access, a workout room, and a fabulous rooftop pool and terrace with views of the ocean. Again, the fact that this is mostly an apartment building is to your advantage, as the pool area is usually empty. Overall, a wonderful place to stay. Highly recommended!


Wonderful hotel

It was okey to stay. Bad internett and tv signal. I had to fix my room card at the reception several times because it didnt work. I got to pay less With cash and bargain because of bad internett. Big difference in the room. It is too much insekts. it is nearby the small Beach. Ok for 3-4 Nights. Cleaning is ok.... Few of the staff can speak English... cleaning lady was kind. translator worked out. Its better to ask for available room in the recepion Nice view on the top, work out senter. ut nothing special about the pool. Old rooms...

Okey stay

Stayed for a week over the Carnaval period. This hotel is ideally situated for the carnival as you avoid the noise and chaos that is is the Olinda Carnaval. But it is a R$ 15 - 20 taxi ride each way to the historic centre and there are lots of pousadas better situated just for site seeing.
The hotel sits just behind a beach that is littered with rubble and rubbish. The immediate surroundings contain many car repair garages. It is quite industrial and run down. We managed to find only 2 restaurants in walking distance of average quality. Traffic noise starts at 6 in the morning and it is busy.
On arrival the staff were very friendly. Our first room was a nightmare, with a rock hard bed, the mattress was about an inch deep and as solid as concrete. The was a damp smell in the wardrobe, walls were scuffed, the shower had bare electrical wires near the shower head. The ancient TV had a brown spot on the screen that obscured the view. We asked for a move the next morning and were immediately given another room on the 8th floor which was modern, freshly painted and very comfortable. The room had a balcony, good A/C and a flat screen TV. There was a small american style kitchenette with a gas stove, sink and fridge. Almost no utensils, just a saucepan for cooking, no coffee cups. WiFi worked on all floors. Nice pool on the roof. The gym is a large room with an ancient running machine and 2 pedal contraptions. Avoid!! There is a professional gym on the same site as the hotel and has everything you could want and daily and weekly membership.
The staff were very helpful and were quite ashamed at the state of the first room.
The rate included breakfast which was very average. We only learnt on the last 2 days that we could order eggs cooked to our liking. Fried, scrambled, poached or omelettes, they all made the breakfast bar far more palatable.
Throughout the stay the staff could not have been more helpful and even let us stay to 2pm in our room on our last day before leaving for the airport.
HIT: the staff
MISS: the location for 51 weeks of the year, only good for Carnaval.

Hit and Miss

I felt like I was staying in a Holiday Inn in Peoria. I might as well have stayed home in the US. 

I knew I made an error in judgement when the cab delivered me. On one side is a converted McDonalds restaurant.  Across the busy street is a large supermarket. Behind the hotel is a narrow empty beach facing a brackish tidal pool. 

The hotel is a $R 15 cab ride from the historic center of Olinda. 

The staff smiled, but not one spoke a word of English. Worse yet, they were all clueless about the Wi-Fi System. Everyone I asked gave me a different password. None of them worked. 

My room on the 7th floor was spotless and larger than a typical pousada. It contained a kitchen. The balcony was just wide enough for a plastic chair turned sideways. 

The breakfast buffet was dominated by flies. The staff smiled but did nothing to protect the food. I drank coffee and left. 

In my opinion this hotel is for Brazilian business travelers and tourists who wish to avoid staying in the authentic historical Olinda, where I happily spent the following night in the beautiful Pousada Bela Vista.
