Charming establishment relatively close to the old tourist center. I booked it for a friend I didn't know how to accommodate. Very nice, clean, convenient room. It's held by a very beautiful person. Go there. Nice experience...

What a surprise.

Where to start, this place is special!

I had to relocate from the hostel I was staying in so, I had to pay an emergency €60 for this room.

I took a taxi to the place as I had a swollen ankle and thank goodness I did. Because you'll need a miracle finding this place otherwise. There is no sign, not at all, it is after all just someone's house in a fairly ghetto area of Brussels. Well the latter may be an exaggeration, but it was a local place, not really for tourists. That said the atom thingy was viewable from my room.

For your information the intercom says 'booking' on one button. I only realised afterwards that it meant 'booking.com' - for which I had booked with and with which they share a mutual relationship. That said, whilst I looked at the intercom with horror, the lady opened the door regardless, she had seen me. Maybe because she e-mailed me after booking asking mew what time I was arriving and stating that she'd be needing cash on arrival.

I didn't have a problem with that, but it soon was realised that they simply don't have an electronic payment system, as I found out listening to the loud conversations of fellow guests being asked for money.She was very keen for the money, which is fine, but some woman had to say she'd pay her the next day as she wasn't prepared. Who knows, but I can tell you one thing, I got NO receipt, and the girl I heard was being asked to pay a fee far higher than me plus €30 'City Tax'. I had paid €60 in total, my neighbour €130.

To the room, well, I'm not the fussy sort - I am not - but it was fairly grim. The bed set where you lay and didn't come back up, the bedding - from the 70's - was grey, used for generations, knobbly and smelt of old. Really bad.

That said it looked a bit dusty but I didn't dare check. 

But it was a room; it was not cold, but it was loud... if a person makes a noise in any room then you'll know all about it, it's all wood and high ceilings; I'm not laying blame, but be prepared. Fortunately my neighbours were solo travellers and no pain was suffered.

The bathroom. There is one for all to share, which can lead to waiting, but I only waited once. The bathroom is quite poor, but functional, and has a radiator that was on.

The shower is terrible, low pressure and dangerously designed - and very old. A slippery      ledge awaits you.

The Wi-Fi. It worked for 3 hours and was impressed the owner went well out of her way to explain it... saying it is normally perfect. Well it isn't, it's crap and stops working; and my laptop never picked up the signal, though my 'phone did! In the end though, signal being fine, it still wouldn't connect from 10PM to check out. No matter what. Nowhere to complain/enquire, when you get shown your room you get told where to leave the key and service is removed at that point.

The area. Plenty of shops which is brilliant, and the owner warned me about the Chinese which was great, and she recommended the kebab place which stood up to the test. Go there.

Ayse, the owner (aye-shah) was so lovely, I could have kissed her, but the €60 visit was still bloody poor.

Transit. You can go on the bus or tram, but more importantly you can take the underground via line 6 to Gare du Midi - this is just around the corner next to the DIY place. Buying a ticket is automated and will need several hours to buy ticket, hint, know the green button oscillates. And I knew instinctively to use the validation machine next to it, which I waited for a kind local to help me. The network is badly designed, but hey-ho I managed it. The fare is €2.10, so that wasn't bad and the line is 'Elisabeth' for your info.

No TV in room, just old furniture and bed.

The VFM factor was record-breakingly bad, but it wasn't too bad either. The owner is a pet, but ultimately it was quite poor.
