I didn't realise this was above a club, i got no sleep which was a pain. It was ok not the best, but would avoid if you want to sleep and don't want to lie awake all night. If you are after the party scene being in a central location then this would do i guess.

If you want to sleep probably best to avoid

Receptionist and hotel staff are attentive. Excellent location in the city centre and even nearby. Too noisy due to a nightclub on the ground floor and the noise of Sydney's busiest street. Otherwise, good atmosphere in the hostel and in the haitactions.

Good location with its pros and cons.

...this hostel is going to be a party hostel tonight,I thought the accommodation was perfectly fine for a big city like Sydney! Very central, really close to everything else and for everything else there's the bus or the monorail,both stations are close to the hostel.The staff were really nice and helpful...after I wanted to move the first room because of the smell of fresh colour,I got a newly added ceiling right away.After the evenings got a little cooler.Unfortunately the windows were also not very well insulated, so that the noise of the streets got better, so you got used to it and there were emergency ears.Since I was on the ground floor, where the music of the clubs was also not available,I got a newly added ceiling.

Except for the fact that...

The location is excellent and the price is extremely cheap for its location. That being said the rooms are a bit stuffy (no AC) and there is a club across the street that plays really loud music till one or two in the morning. The staff were all extremely nice and did a great job. It might be worth it to spend a few more dollars to stay in a different location especially if you are a light sleeper. However, there are worse places out there.

Cheap Accommodations in Sydney

Been travelling Australia for 2 months and this is by far the worst hostel I've stayed at.
1. Lift broken so had to bring our big bags up 4 flights of stairs
2. Cockroaches, bathroom kitchen and rooms
3. 1 toilet and 2 showers for the whole floor
4. WiFi only works on level 2/3
5. Drilling and roadworks going on from 7:30 am and also going on at 1 am one night still
6. Nightclub on levels 1 and 2 so the whole rooms shake and on one side of the building in the room 2 floors up it still sounds like you're in the club
7. Sanitary bin in the girls 1 toilet was overflowing for 6 days 
8. No air con or fans in the rooms! Had to get up at 5am and have a cold shower one night because I couldn't sleep


Worst hostel so far

Dirty, old, disgusting. Nothing like the photos. Smells. Rude staff. Location is good but that's the only positive I can think of! The whole place needs completely re doing. Above a loud and smelly bar. No fans in rooms. Bathrooms were not cleaned in 3 days

Do not book this hostel

The hostel is conveniently located, a few minutes' walk from the aquarium, the bay and the opera house, and the hygiene conditions were normal, although we only had a bathroom on the floor where we were located.

Well, if I recommend it.

I stayed here in a 4shared. The rooms are just simple, with a bed and a locker. The bathrooms are very clean! There is in the ladies bathroom a hairdryer, always good! 
The kitchen is ok, its not very clean and there are just bars where you can sit, there are no tables for groups. 
At the reception there is a good place to chill out and where you can use the (free)wifi. 
The location is perfect, in the middle of the city! (What makes it a little bit noisy at night, but i think thats normal in the middle of the city) 

Good hostel, great location! 

The location is central, but the service is terrible. We had to call the manager to have a room without broken windows... and we had a room without ladder for the overlapping beds. And the hygiene, the smell, the sticky floor... very low prices, but clearly, the quality wasn't there. I may have a taste for luxury but I was used to hostels offering towels, even for rent. Here, nothing. We arrived one day when their card machine was down, and we had to pay cash for our stay for five nights. If you can go somewhere else, don't hesitate.

What to Avoid

I'm in the room of 4 people on the top floor. A lot of noise enters the street and on the days of partying in the bar downstairs the hostel you can't sleep until late especially if you're tired. It's hard to get hot water to shower. I think you can find places that are also located and more quiet in the city center.
