This is a fantastic base centre to see local wildlife and we were lucky enough to see turtles hatching.Food is good and it is very friendly.The trips on the river enable you to see wildlife close up and the guides are informative.

Great place for turtles and river cruise

Mowamba Lodge was perfect for our first trip to Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountain region. The property is beautiful and we went in Autumn so the trees were changing colour and it was warm during the day and crisp at night. The beds and bed linen were five star hotel quality. We were able to light the fire in the main lounge area at night and the lovely furniture in the main common areas made you want to sit and take in the wonderful view or get cozy by the fire. The bedrooms also had individual access to the veranda with table and chairs to sit at. Breakfast was supplied which included Bacon and delicious fresh eggs to cook or if preferred cereal and toast also a nice selection of Tea and Coffee, also filtered drinking water is provided. There was pantry space for each room if you wanted to bring some of your own food. It is a nice 10 - 15 minute drive to the centre of Jindabyne with lots of wildlife to see on the way. It was really nice to come back to the Lodge after a day at Thredbo or doing activities in Jindabyne. Tom is the owner and an excellent host, we enjoyed the recommendations he suggested for activities and where to eat, and we would have loved to have stayed longer.

Beautiful lodge and property, close to walks and activities or just to relax and unwind.

Only 15 minutes out of Jindabyne and yet there is no other habitation in sight.  Superb views over the valley of the Mowamba River valley.  Great place to unwind after a day climbing Mount Kosciusko.  There are five rooms here each with private bathrooms but we only saw one with en-suite facilities - ours.  The rooms are perhaps a little small but there is a large, extremely well stocked communal kitchen, excellent cooking facilities, a big sitting room and wrap-around decks.  

We were really lucky when we visited.  We had the place to ourselves.   I think it would feel a bit crowded if all the rooms were full.  The place would work well for a group booking of family or friends who get on well together.   

There is an emphasis on fishing here as the owners have two stocked fishing ponds as well as a fly fishing training pool.

There are two pet, hand-reared sheep on the property as well as wombat burrows and visiting kangaroos.

The approach road is gravel for a couple of kilometres with a steep final descent on sealed surface.  But it's no problem.

Overall a good stay!

Peaceful retreat

The Lodge’s surroundings were just amazing - beautiful snow gums, a river runs through it (yes, that’s a fly fishing reference), mountains and even a tiny house. There’s also a practice pond to learn how to cast. 
Tom, the manager, was a great host keeping the lodge clean and tidy the whole time we were there. The fridge was stocked with staples which were provided complimentary. And also free range eggs from Tim’s chickens out the front. 
We had a twin share room and it had a balcony so we could sit out and have breakfast/dinner and listen to the birds and watch the wildlife - sheep, kangaroos, etc
It’s about 10 mins to Jindy up Barry Way and a little over 40 to Thredbo. We mainly hiked and biked so it was a great base for us to come back to and get clean after the day’s activities. 
Tom is building a skate ramp and bike park so there’ll be more to keep you entertained on the property. 

Lovely lodge at the back of Jindy

We stayed here for my husband's birthday weekend.  What an amazing location!  Only 10 minutes out of Jindabyne and you feel a world away!  We were welcomed by Tom when we arrived and he was exceptionally helpful, ensuring that we had a comfortable stay with everything we'd need.  The lodge is immaculate, beautifully decorated and exceptionally well stocked. Our room had beautiful views, a very comfortable bed and lovely crisp white bedding.
We were particularly impressed by Tom's hospitality and his eye for detail to meet the needs of his guests - from the trout stocked dams, easy access to the river and the soon to be operational casting pool.

Excellent accommodation

My partner and I have just had a wonderful relaxing stay at the Mowamba River Lodge with our 5 month old daughter..  The lodge is situated a short drive down a private road off of the Barry Way (a main road accessed from central Jindabyne) which lends the property a type of off-the-grid privacy hard to find in other accomodations in the area. You truly feel like you are “getting away from it all” while staying here.  The birds sing, the river runs but otherwise total silence. The lodge itself is a luxuriously appointed building featuring lots of rich natural textures like wood, stone and fur. There is a big fireplace in the living room which the friendly lodge owner Tom will come and light for you in the evening if it is cold. There are also heaters in each room which was great for us with a little one as we were able to keep warm at night and not have to worry about her as it does get quite cold overnight in the Snowy Mountains. The beds are big, the sheets are clean and if you need anything it is provided right away (extra towels/shampoo etc). The rooms are quite sound proof and despite other guests being there during our stay were were unable to hear them once the door was closed which we were relieved about as we had our little one with us. The lodge also has a well stocked kitchen with a coffee maker, water filter and breakfast supplies all at your disposal. The wi-fi and reception were both great throughout our week long stay.

The best bit of course is the easy access to the Mowamba river (aka The Moonbah) famous for it’s amazing trout fishing (for my partner) and for myself a beautiful place to walk with the bub or meditate by. There is also a trout pond right by the main lodge and a second up behind the lodge which are both kept well stocked with trout. The path around the front pond makes for a nice morning walk with the lambs, chickens and dogs usually keeping you company (the lodge is dog friendly and despite us not having one it was awesome to get some puppy time in with the other guests and the owner Tom’s dogs). While staying we also got to take a look at the new Mini ramp (for skating) which has just been built which looks awesome for summer. 

A great experience all round and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a tranquil relaxing stay in the Snowies.
