The location is stunning, however sadly that’s where most of the positives end. Stayed in the Shanti retreat. For the price we expected luxury, instead it felt not clean, the layout cramped and furniture uncomfortable. The poor design upstairs with the low ceilings had us bumping our heads in the two bedrooms and bathroom.  While the property is private, you don’t feel like you have privacy while inside, we had to keep the curtains drawn mostly as people could walk past and peer straight in. The garden is lovely, and the proximity to the beach is wonderful but the stairs leading down are steep and narrow. I am sure Shambhala was beautiful once, but now it’s just tired and in desperate need of some TLC, a decent clean and a move away from the dark colours that were a little depressing. This is a three star accommodation at best pretending to be 5 star as advertised.

Expensive for a tired property.

Do yourself a favour and take that special someone here! This place is something special. This was our second stay and doubt it will be the last!  You have privacy but also close to the hub if you want to go out. I was reading the guest book and seems to be a popular spot to get engaged. Can’t fault it and looking forward to going back! The photos just don’t do it justice.

Pros
Gorgeous surroundings with stunning gardens
Accommodation had literally EVERYTHING provided 
Lovely external private spa (though temperature setting was quite hot and we couldn't turn it down lol)
Beach literally at back of premises 
Easy pin-coded access instead of keys
Few minutes drive to Byron Bay shops and cafes

Issues: 
Sand in both mine and sons bed from day 1
Dirty iron stained new shirt
No immediate communication with staff
Spa bath in bathroom not working 
Shower screen quite small which caused a lot of water to spill over to the bathroom floors every time
Quite expensive accommodation 

Was given an extra day free to compensate for issues. Staff, when contactable, were pleasant and accommodating.

Beautiful grounds with beach on back doorstep

This is the second time we've stayed here for our wedding anniversary, we love Shambhala! Would highly recommend anyone wanting to stay in a beautiful beachfront retreat, a serene place close enough to the hub but still has privacy. The property is beautifully designed and gives you a feeling of tranquility from the moment you arrive. The staff are always warm and welcoming and the little extra touches they added made our anniversary even more amazing. Until next time Shambala.

A beautiful beachfront retreat

Absolutely stunning and pure bliss, my husband and I had a recent getaway and we couldn't have been happier. Breathtaking views of the ocean from our bedroom and balcony (it even had a gorgeous bath on it) The location seemed perfect as you can either take the short walk along the beach into town or a short walk in the opposite direction and have one of the most beautiful beaches all to yourself and afterwards the spa and steam room was a great way to unwind and relax before taking a bottle of wine down to the beach to watch the sunset. We can't wait to go back! see you next year.

Absolutely stunning and pure bliss

We were booked for mid August and were really looking forward to our stay but being in Qld and dealing with hard border closures and with Byron Bay being a hotspot, we are obviously unable to make it. We requested a refund, but the only option was a credit for a future stay or 80% of our original fully paid fee. We have no idea when things will open up or when we would be able to get down the coast again so we chose the refund but are very disappointed that management chose to keep 20% of our money (the booking was well over $1000) for doing nothing other than taking our reservation.  I know hospitality is doing it tough, but so is everyone else.  The whole thing just strikes me as being very mercenary.

Very disappointing refund policies

I booked this retreat to have some time out from a busy life to reconnect, and treat myself. I was disappointed with the accommodation provided to me despite booking well in advance, the room provided was like a shoebox, stained pillow covers, no table/chair, no place to put the luggage on, shared toilet and bath with no lock (I couldn't have a shower in the accommodation, had to utilize the shower near spa). 
The location was amazing, food was the best part of the retreat. The yoga was good

#Manayogaretreat

Booked the Samadhi Retreat with private spa bath.  On arrival there was no spa bath which was very disappointing - I had booked this hotel especially for this.  There was no notification that is was not working and so they had taken it out.  Rooms are dark and small and not really very nice.  Overall the garden is quite nice.  It is not very private as other guests can walk past each room.  Nice to have the beach access but very overpriced and I wouldn't stay there again. Pictures on the website are very different to reality

Nice to have beach access but rooms are very average.

We stayed here for two nights in two different rooms.  What a beautiful property but there were a few issues.  We didnt realise that was is no reception area and getting to the property at night wasn't easy as it was very dark and lighting and signage wasn't very good.  Parking can be a bit awkward. 

Our first room was beautifully decorated but I found it hard to sleep in this room because there was too much light coming in from the front door into the bedroom and no bedroom door so for me it made the room too bright to sleep so it was a sleepless night unfortunately.  There should be more block out covers/dark blind covering the door so the light does not go into the bedroom as this is not good for light sleepers.  The king bed was lovely and comfortable and lounge area lovely decorated.  Aircon worked ok and kitchenette was small.  

The second room was a bigger apartment and was lovely decorated as well.  The rooms did have curtains that blocked out most outdoor lighting but there was so many windows that were uncovered but luckily it was somewhat better (not 100%) and able to sleep.  The beach is very close and lovely views from resort.  Our daybed that was allocated to us was a nice size but unfortunately did not have any shade cover over it so we didnt use it.  Staff were friendly but we only saw one very briefly as there was no reception desk.   We loved the Balinese decor around the property.  No pool. 

Staying here was expensive and it was disappointing that we had the issue with the lighting in the rooms at night which made sleeping difficult.

Lovely Resort But Needs More Blockout Curtains

Friends tee'ed this up, away from the main drag which was good. A small walk to get to town, by road or beach! It has its own beach access. There are a few options on site for accommodation, we had the 3 room option. It also had access to a steam room, sauna, spa and some dedicated relaxing type areas.
