I stayed there once with a friend and we will never return. A horrible place. We paid for a private room, although the rooms did not have a key, everyone could open the door and enter. One day, returning from a walk, we discovered that they put a couple in our room without consulting us. We arrived and they were there. All our belongings were above the bed, our luggage, clothes, everything. It was a great disrespect because we had not been consulted. When we entered we ordered a private room. They gave us a room with two beds because it was the only available, but it was very clear that no one else would stay there while we were in the room. They didn't just put us up, as they put a couple. But we felt very uncomfortable. After the fights, we were out of the room. It was a very unpleasant situation.

Worst place in the city!

We made a booking through TripAdvisor / Booking.com and upon arriving the lady told us the hostel was fully booked and denied any record of our booking despite me showing her the confirmation email we had received. We weren't even let in the front door! Not a happy traveller.

No record of our booking!

The rooms are very nice and the beds and bathroom are very clean. They have several common areas where you can rest and watch TV. The service is phenomenal and we were treated very well, we laughed a lot with them and their wine tasting is highly recommended.

Very good hostel!

I went there waiting for the pass to Santiago (which was closed due to a huge snowstorm). The crue welcomed me with open arms even though I didn't have a reservation, nor did I know when was I leaving. After a few days I fell sick because of something I ate outside, and they took great care of me, helped me find medications and an english speaking doctor. 
I felt home even though I was sick half a world away!! And all thanks to them :)
I would definitely go back there!
PS : the room 6 was going under renovations while I was there for those who were wondering!

If you want to go to this hostel - better check your booking twice! 
I booked the hostel via Hostelworld, got a confirmed booking and afterwards an email from the hostel, saying "Sorry - we overbooked our rooms, but please come by anyway to one of our other rooms".
Trying to negotiate via email which night the booked room is actually available turned out to be a great waste of time - the final reply was about: "Sorry for the inconvenience and not being able to stay - it's high season and we're booked out."

So good advice: if the hostel has no ratings published on hostelworld, they might have a good reason not to show the reviews...

A confirmed booking is worth nothing - better check twice!

Lapacho Hostel is well located near the tram, and a few blocks from the street with all the bars and restaurants.

All of the communal areas were great, a warm reception, clean kitchen, and plenty of information about excursions.

My problem was with the room (number 6) here is a small list of why not to stay in room 6

1) top of the list- the bed. The mattress is far too aged & has springs which poke into you everywhere. It was the most uncomfortable nights unsleep I've ever had- we both woke up in pain and tired. This mattress needs to be replaced (as do the lumpy pillows)
2) The carpeted floor was filthy (see photo attached) 
3) The bed sheets were too small for the bed.
4) There is a delightful communal courtyard area- but a guy was playing really bad trance at a hefty volume until 1:30 am in it. I could have yelled at him to turn it down but figured I wouldn't sleep anyway with the springs so didn't bother. I'm surprised the staff didn't think to ask him to lower the volume after midnight though.
5) Hairs in the sink and on the loo seat meant that the bathroom had not been cleaned properly.
6) no mirror in the bathroom.
7) Noise from the corridor and reception seemed to travel easily through the thin walls and doors- ontop of the disco downstairs

I think most of the above could be easily be fixed by the management. I hope they read this and can make improvements. There are other rooms in this hostel, perhaps they're not all this bad- but DO NOT BOOK ROOM SIX!!!


No sleep

I am Gaston, from Bahia Blanca, and I want to emphasize how well I feel at this Hostel, from my personal experience that I get along very well with the people who work there (they have a very good disposition to give you a hand in whatever they can ), and also while I am passing by very good people, mostly foreigners. There is a community kitchen where one can buy their things and cook whatever they want, plus there is a refrigerator to store them. There is a guitar-guarded, asadito in the courtyard (On the ground floor there is a very nice patio, with plants and a grill). You can see my beloved team (Olympus) (a cable TV with a large, free-to-use cable TV with beer bars with other passengers).

This hostel makes you feel at home.

The receptionists were very kind and gave us the best advice as to the city (we knew nothing), how the physical space seemed very comfortable to me and didn't bother us with the door issue since the people we shared the stadium with were not in conflict (with respect to other comments that the law made) What is more remarkable is that at dinner time when we gathered to eat and quizzes to listen to music we didn't keep the hostel people complaining.

It is excellent.

We spent 5 days in Mendoza, with my partner, on referrals from other friends, we arrived at this hostel, we really wanted to highlight the warmth and quality of care, excellent breakfast, bilingual, very communicative, they gave us options every day to do tours, economical, guided.

We felt very well taken care of, clean, and above all an excellent location.

We spent five great days there because very well advised by the managers. Mendoza is a nice city where there are a lot of activities that the Lapacho Hostel team can advise you on. I have a very good memory of them and I wish you to go and create yours in this hostel. Enjoy.
