As of now, the hotel cannot be rated because it is currently closed!!! Due to a possible change of ownership, renovation or conversion measures are being taken by platforms such as Booking.com, which are obviously unaware of and which are still on offer!!!

Hotel

I and my wife have stayed on a couple of occasions and found the staff to be pleasant and the rooms clean and tidy and modern unlike the ones we have stayed in in GREECE. This hotel has a great location.

In the hotel complex excellent mostly for the location and view from the suite, very available staff especially Adrian very very exquisite and friendly person, still lacks the mentality of tourism.

Scenery by screaming

When we arrived at the hotel we asked for the price and availability for two + dogs. The receptionist gave us an okay, telling us that the next day we had to change rooms. We unpacked our bags, we came back. The dog was no longer doing well; after discussions, for the first night he told us that we had to pay in advance. Since there was the credit card sticker, I presented mine, but the attendant said to me: Only cash, if you haven't gone to the bank! He went to the door and removed the sticker saying, You nervous Italians. The night was out of light (dark and no air-co).

Camera OK, poor service

The hotel is very very nicely located and most of the rooms overlook the Saranda bay that is just gorgeous in the morning and at night. It is very clean and has spacious, nice rooms. There is air conditioning and the rooms are cleaned every day. I thought I would have to pay in cash but was able to pay by card. It is approximately 15 meters from the water and close to some very fine restaurants that provide a variety of fish and meat dishes. The hotel staff is very welcoming and friendly. They will help with any question about the city or what to do to enjoy it.

In the heart of the city!

Hotel without elevator you have to write it four floors on foot with suitcases and then every day up and down is not the maximum, bath with tub without any protection to shower means to flood it, in the two days of staying there was no towel change and the bed was never repaired, inside the hotel there is no coffee machine or water you always have to go out or take everything first to the room.

weekend in Saranda

We found the staff at the small Hotel Lion Gate to be extremely welcoming and kind. The room was large, spacious, and recently renovated with everything that you would expect.  Its location also counts as one of the plus-points, due to being right on the pedestrian-only seafront promenade. 

Our approach was to use the hotel as a base from which to visit the beach, go to Corfu, Butrint, and the 'blue eye' spring in the nearby nature reserve. It served this purpose very well indeed. The hotel has no restaurant itself, so breakfast is served just 20 meters away, around the corner at 'Banana Cafe'. The reception at the hotel provide guests with a voucher each morning, as the breakfast is included in the very reasonably priced rooms (expensive for Albanian standards, but cheaper than average for Saranda).   

The small size of the hotel and it's location was not all positive however. There is no dedicated private parking at the hotel (we were lucky enough to find a space nearby on the street) -  I would not describe this as any more than an inconvenience, though. Secondly, there is no lift in the hotel. That's also not the end of the world, I guess we were just unlucky to be on the 5th (top) floor. It also doesn't have its own beach area or pool. 

If you're looking for somewhere at the heart of Saranda, and don't mind those little drawbacks, then you will be more than satisfied with your stay.

A good hotel, getting the basics right

The hotel is located in the best area to visit the city and enjoy the view of the bay.

Great for location and service.

The Lion Gate is a villa with only 9 rooms , most of them with a huge balcony and 10 meters from the water , directly on the beach promenade . The view from my 4. floor room was so amazing . The brand new interior with fridge , quiet A/C and a huge King Size bed made my stay very pleasent . A big help was the very friendly young lady at the front desk by the name of FLO , She helped me with her knowledge in FLUENT English to make my 4 day vacation to be perfect . Next door is a steak house with superb grilled meats , the prices are so very low ( grilled lamb with all trimmings for 6 € . The same with all the other restaurants and cafe's . Beer , soda or coffee for 1 € to 1.30 € . Camel lights 1.80 € a pack ( made in Germany ) EVERY night come the locals down to the promenade and enjoy a long walk by the sea which i had noticed in all other albanian cities . I was told : We are not rich BUT we live life . A rare motivation to be found in this world and i honor this point of view.....this makes Albania so special ! It only takes 30 min. from Corfu and you are in a different world....worth every minute of your stay.

The new interior with refrigerator, quiet air conditioning and a huge double bed made my stay very pleasant. A big help was the very kind young lady at the reception called FLO, who helped me with her knowledge of fluent English to make my 4 day holiday. Next to the hotel is a perfect steak house with delicious grilled meat, the prices are very low (grilled lambs are all floors for €6.
