Excellent and relaxing place to stay.  I truly enjoyed may stay at the Glamping Tent/Cabin. The bed was very comfortable & the chairs by the River were amazing.
This is a wonderful place to stay - close enough to Banff and Lake Louise without the cost or crowds.

So much fun! A great location and we stayed in a Trappers tent. Our site was extremely clean on arrival. I love having real toilets and showers at the main Trading Post. Cell phone coverage was a plus so we could keep in touch with home.

The best fall glamping experience! I’ve visited Sundance by Basecamp in the summer and fall and going in September was something special. The Mountain View’s, fall colors, cozy trappers tent, and relaxing by the fire were a few of my favorite parts. We also stayed nice and warm throughout the night with the heaters in the tents! Would highly recommend for a couples get away, girls trip, or for some family quality time! 

Our daughter who camps and hikes in Kananaskis all summer long told us about Sundance Lodge last summer. I thought it sounded interesting and said I would give it a try. We booked a trappers tent for 3 nights in June and 4 nights in August 2021. We had the misfortune of striking both times when  Kananaskis had pouring rain but it didn't make it any less fun. We were thankful for the heater in the trapper tent as it was quiet cool at night. I liked the covered over eating area which helped keep things dry. Our daughter was with us so she had tarp's set up to cut any wind and keep the fire pit dry. The Trading Post closes from noon till 3 pm I believe which would be between check in and check out. We checked in on line the day before. The Inside Restrooms close at 9.30 pm which I thought was a little too early, 10 or 10.30 pm would be way more convenient.  We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. There were lots of families camping, not so many old people like us as they probably have campers or motor homes. Quiet time starts at 10 pm and they won't stand for any disruptive behaviour. It is about a 5 minute drive to Kananaskis Village which seemed to basically  be a couple hotels and not much else. Boundary Ranch is about 5 minutes away if you wanted to go trail riding, we did and it was awesome. If you are not a pup tent kind of a person give these a try, I'm glad we did as we plan to go several times a year now.

This is the year for inexperienced people to be everywhere! So be aware of that in any review you read. I have traveled the world and camped a ton! We were lucky to get a perfect spot at Sundance in the heat of August.  The amenities and staff are great. We loved the size of the Trappers lodge. The front patio is brilliant. The space in front is so big. We felt like we had such great privacy in our spot as well. During the period of Covid the staff were so vigilant at keeping the sites and public space clean and safe. People do have to realize that although the tent is set up and ready for you, this is still highcountry camping. There are bugs, there are animals and there are rules to be followed for the safety for all. There is so much beauty in the Kananaskis area and Sundance Lodge is perfectly positioned so you can enjoy it all responsibly. This is not a full service Glamping destination but WE made it that way for ourselves because the best basics were there. Thank you Sundance Team. All of you were so delightful and hardworking we appreciated all your efforts. We will be making this an annual “Adventure”.

My husband and I stayed here in June 2019 in an RV on campsite #13. We highly recommend this place. The campsite was big and secluded from other campsites giving us the feeling we were by ourselves. It had a fire pit, picnic table and the location was slap bang in the middle of the mountains. 

Campground personnel were really friendly and helped us plan our hikes for the next few days. Toilets and showers were also very clean and there is a washing machine + dryer on site if necessary. The campground store also has everything you need including food, toiletries, hats (for those cold mountain nights!) and even bear spray. 

We stayed for 2 nights but wished we had stayed longer. When staying here take a trip to Kananaskis Lake and do the Upper Lake Trail (17km) - amazing views!!

I am not sure that what we received was full value for the money that is charged to stay here, but we did enjoy our stay. The Trading Post has hours that it is open and closed so you need to plan your day accordingly, especially if you want to take a shower, use their clean bathrooms instead of the very smelly outhouses, or buy some necessities ( ice?).
The camping areas are very clean, and reasonably quiet. This is a good spot for a family camping trip as there are no rowdy people allowed.

Sundance is a decent "glamping" option near Calgary. As a family of 3 with a dog, we stayed in a "riverside trapper tent" for 3 days and 2 nights in late August 2023. Overall, we had a fine experience. The tent is basic but ok. The spot around it is fine. The forest and river are nice. People there were friendly. But there are several not-so-great things to note, which, in the end, left us disappointed and dissatisfied in hindsight.
1. The value is quite bad. At this rate, and given their recent acquisition by a large corporation, you'd think that "glamping" for $130/night would include at least some minor forms of luxury. But no. Everything is oh so very basic, and clearly exactly the same as when it was $50/night, like a year ago. The fire pit half grill is wacky and rusty. The wood frame for the tent is old and unstable. Nails protrude from the floors. The kerosene heater is antiquated and hard to turn on. You have to walk 10 min to potable water. There isn't even a folding table inside the tent to enjoy the warmth at night or in the morning. You have to pay $10/day to rent old, foldout, mismatched, chairs (some with holes)  which they clearly got for free when guests forgot them behind.
2. "Riverside" means you are on the side of the river, and not that of the high way. The beautiful nearby river is still a 10 min walk away, and you can still hear cars passing on the nearby highway through the night.
3. Some employees are aloof. The receptionist was vague and not helpful upon 3 different requests about accommodations and access to the river.
4. There are so many rules. It's off putting from the get-go. Yet, very few people respect them. So basically it's just for show and legalistic purposes.

My opinion: this "establishment" is floating on past reviews and expectations. To continue to survive, they MUST update their facilities and become more transparent on their website. Unless their goal is to hook in clueless tourists instead of creating a local, loyal, and returning clientele which would translate in making the space truly special for anyone coming.

My recommendation: If you want glamping, go elsewhere. If you want a wilderness camping experience, go elsewhere. That is, until this place makes up its mind and adapts.

Below average glamping for above average rate.

We camped in September, booked a trapper tent unit 35. The campground location is great, close to lots of hiking trails. The location of our unit was close to the main building with running water washrooms. The trapper tents have a heater (which they fill everyday), mattress pad and a flashlight/lamp. We had issues lighting our heater the first night but the staff were great and got it started for us. The heater was great, we were having colder than usual weather with snow over night and high winds the heater kept us toasty warm.  We stayed 2 nights and unfortunately the heater might have been too welcoming as when we woke up the 2nd night there was a lot of mice poop around the heater. We didn't have any food or anything else that would attract mice, they were only around the heater. It was end of season camping too so not overly surprised, it was very quiet on our side of the campground. Our friends on the other side where there were a few more people didn't have any mice poop in their trapper tent. Other then that the stay was convenient for a mini weekend camping trip without having the pack a tent.

We have stayed at Sundance lodges for week long trips for the past five years.  Each year our experience has been less pleasant than before.  This year we reserved two sites next to each other the day that the online booking opened, actually the hour that it opened.  We were told that the sites that we booked were already taken, however they could offer us different sites together.  When we arrived we found that the two sites were not next to each other, in fact they were separated by another site.  This was quite a disappointment as we were travelling with family and small children. 
The whole week just had minor mishaps, the store closed earlier than was posted one night, the senior campground caretaker was quite rude on multiple occasions to not only myself but our children as well.   
 Quiet hours for the trailer running his generator in the nights were not enforced and so forth.  However, the store/main office staff when present were wonderful and very helpful.
I think this year will be our last for spending our week trip out in Kananaskis at Sundance Lodges.  Hopefully we can find some recommendations on another campground.
