Vientiane

Very friendly hotel. The staff is particularly friendly and serious. Some rooms are exceptional for a very reasonable price. The location is ideal. Quick and serious booking service. The rooms at the back are very quiet.

Perfect for a tight budget.

I'm general manager of an hotel in Luang Prabang.
Went to Vientiane for business.
I didn't expect to spend a night here but took the cheapest place I found.
I know what a cheap place is in Laos, I didn't have much expectations.
But that guesthouse, as one of the worst I ever slept in.
The room couldn't be smaller and it was quite dusty. There is only one electric outlet, far from the bed and a just a tiny blanket.
Bathroom are shared, no hot water, everything is half broken and there is absolutely no soap or anything. At least some toilet paper...
The owner couldn't care less but at least speaks a decent English.
You could literally find any other place that could be twice as better for the same price.
I don't like to post bad reviews about an hotel, I know how bad it is for business, but this place doesn't deserve any recognition. 

Atroce

This was an absolute dump! The double room was tiny. The bed base was broken (missing slats) therefore bad nights sleep and when sitting on edge of bed you fell through. , The towels given were disgusting - bleach stains and the hotel had the cheek to put up a notice saying if any of their towels were damaged or stained their guests would be charged. The walls were manky, the window looking into a corridor was missing a pane of glass and the door had obviously been hacked at in the past by previous guests. The whole place was filthy. 

Outside the tables were manky, empty beer bottles were lined up on top of a table with a toilet brush underneath. In the street at the hotel entrance was a broken toilet bowl just thrown down.

There was a communal balcony which had a dirty fag burned chair, a table with a half empty tin lager and an ashtray filled with fag ends which looked like they’d been there for days. 

There is basic accommodation and the standard of this property doesn’t even reach that.

We stupidly paid for a room without seeing it first but we had arrived in Vientiane after a long bus journey feeling tired and with a tummy bug.

Do not stay here!

Absolute Dump

The worst guesthouse in the entire time we have been away which is 2 months now. We have stayed in many hostels and don’t mind basic. However this place was just awful. Firstly when we arrived the guy told us they did not have any double rooms left even though we had booked one. So the man tried to give us a dorm room right on the top floor and said it would just be us even though we booked a private room. A dorm room was cheaper obviously than a private room so this was not acceptable. The room was covered in ants so we asked to move. He moved us to a superior room and said he would move us in the morning. In the end we ended up paying extra to just stay in the room. 

The second room was also Incredibly unclean, the room looked like it had never been cleaned ever, cob webs everywhere, hair all over the floor and dirty sheets. There was also bed bugs in the bed ( see my pic attached to this review). The staff were very cold and not welcoming at all. They made you take your shoes off but every time we went upstairs are feet would be black because they clearly don’t wash the floor. The wifi also didn’t work, every 5 minutes it would log you out and say you had entered the wrong password. 

Do not stay here go somewhere else!! 

DO NOT STAY HERE!!

I booked two nights in this guesthouse before reading the reviews. Mistake. Big mistake. HUGE mistake.

First I must say I have been travelling through south east Asia for the last three months, in four countries. This is by far the most horrible, terrible, nightmarish experience ever.

I reserved the day before arrival, after a 19h bus ride from Vietnam. I arrived at 7PM. They looked for my reservation for ten minutes, couldnt find it, so I had to show them from my cell phone. That's when they told me I'd have to wait for 30mn, the time for them to clean the room (at 7pm, yeah. Room still not cleaned up). Very pleasant after a long trip. I had to wait for 1 hour before getting into my room. Talking about the "room", it's a cube, basically. No window, and when your luggage is on the floor, you barely have space to walk.

Be aware than none of the "rooms" is safe. As you can see on the picture attached, anybody can just pass his hand through the window giving on the hallway and open it from the inside. It's as easy as using your key to open it. And considering the people staying in this place, I strongly advice you keep your valuables in a luggage with a locker when you leave your "room".

The small terrace in front of the reception is constantly filled with people talking loudly, getting drunk and intoxicated in ways I prefer not to know. The couple next to my room is part of them. It's 3am as Im writing this, unable to sleep because there 5 year old kid is constantly running down the hallway, slamming, slamming, and slamming the door again, and the parents seem just too high to care about it.

Two hours ago, my girlfriend and I realized we were more and more itchy. Guess what? Bedbugs. All over the bed. All over the pillows. I had to come down to the reception, telling the girl about the noisy kid and the bedbugs. She did her job with the kids, telling them twice to stop it, but still had the nerves to tell me with a tired face: "Why didn't you tell me before about the bedbugs???"
Hum, because Im realizing it now!!!!
She did change the sheets and all though, and I cant blame her for the horrible place she has to work in. This might be such a pain for her too.

I am so glad Im leaving this place in a few hours. I found something so much better for the same price two blocks away. I have not enough words to tell you, to urge, to beg you not to go there. If you do after reading this, good luck, but if you still do you will not say you didnt know.

The guesthouse from HELL.

This place was disgusting, it had dirty marks all over the walls and was genuinely really unclean. The staff were super unfriendly, we booked a train through them paying there advertised price and then they told us we’d been charged the wrong amount cause prices had gone up and made us pay the difference even though there prices were clearly advertised wrong on the counter. To top this off my shoes got stolen from outside the property as you need to take your shoes off to enter. When I told reception he just laughed at me. Avoid at all costs.

Worst place we’ve stayed

Stopped there randomly after a 11hours drive... I was tired enough not to compare with other places around...
Got a A/C double room with bathroom. 
The room was not super clean, the sink was blocked, the mattress not comfy as in many places in Laos. When I noticed the multiple holes in the bed sheet, I thought of bed bugs but did not see any... I guess I was lucky in room 201 because now that I've read the reviews it gives me goosebumps to think that I might have had some...
Stay elsewhere if you can.

There are better places

I am planning to stay at Mixay Guesthouse for four nights. On my first day,  today while unpacking my bag I noticed a bug on the bed sheet. At closer inspection I saw it was a bed bug, I killed it and while pulling back the top sheet discovered a couple more.
I went to inform the staff who moved me to another room. I explained that I was concerned the next room would have the same issue. The staff assured me that this room has just had a brand new mattress and was bug free. 
Hopefully I won’t have anymore issues, if you stay here I suggest you check the bed and bedding before settling in!

I strongly disagree, a staff member came to visit our room, the door was open, obviously no one saw anything... except for this little embarrassment, the rooms with windows are correct.

The rooms are correct, the bathroom shared with warm but pressurized water, the boss is non-challenging as possible and of no help or information.
