I had a very enjoyable stay in Ardilaun and could not recommend the place highly enough. Rooms are comfortable, heating is generous but can be adjusted to your taste, staff is very welcoming. I liked a nice self catering canteen room and the fact it could be used any time of the day. The real winner is the views onto Fergus river, I highly recommend booking a river view room you won't regret it. Ennis is in great location to be close to all the sights of the West of Ireland. The quality/ price ratio is great. Would certainly stay again/

Great stay

We stayed in one of the self catering units ( G2), it was absolutely amazing, so cosy, clean. Check in was perfect. It was very reasonably priced, our only regret is it's a short visit as we are flying out of Shannon early. It would be a perfect getaway for a couple.

Amazing 

Ardilaun is a guesthouse, not a bed and breakfast.  Their website does not mention breakfast, BUT their description on TripAdvisor states breakfast is available.  This discrepancy should be corrected.  Our reservation confirmation did state No Board, which I admit I misunderstood.  That said, the room was great with a river view, bathroom was modern.  Security to the guesthouse is with a key code.  There is a former breakfast room where one could work on their computer, and a refrigerator where one could store small parcels of food.  WiFi in our room had a weak signal, and we were the first room after reception.  You could walk to the city centre of Ennis from there, but it would be a long walk and it is not direct.  Not on a bus route.  If you want a guesthouse experience, where you have a nice room, can come and go as you please and don't want to necessarily interact with other guests and staff, this is the place for you.  If you want a bed and breakfast experience, then you should seek a different accommodation.

Bed, No Breakfast

The room was nice but small. However no breakfast offered! Two days out of three we did not have warm water in the shower. One of us got lucky, the second one missed. The front rooms are noisy if you keep the window open. The gravelled parking lot let you hear every car move. Also you can hear noise from the neighbors rooms. The light on the mirror in the bathroom did not work and they couldn't fix it during our stay.

OK but no breakfast. Too expensive for the price

Don’t let the cover deceive you! Beautiful outside. Rooms grubby, old and basic, bed and linen lumpy and hard. No ventilation. Shower small and smelly. Soundproofing poor. No breakfast. Expensive! Bad

Beyond disappointing stay! Little sleep

I would not recommend staying here. This place needs work. The wifi was spotty and the television did not work. In 2 out of 3 of our rooms.
The rooms smelled moldy. Showers were extremely small.
They did not provide fans and there was no exhaust fan or a/c.
The beds were not comfortable.


Needs improvement

The lady at reception was nice-ish, I paid but the card machine gave out blank receipts so she said the machine would have said if it hadn't gone through. We thought none of it till she came to our room abt 3 times and I went to reception as well and showed her on my banking app that the money was taken out of my account. She even took a pic of my transactions to go show her "boss". Each time she was saying it wasn't going through. There was construction going on till after 6pm on a Saturday evening and there was  loud voices and music blaring from out of the bathrooms extractor fan. The mattress has seen better days and slanted so the top of the bed is lower than the feet end. You can feel the springs. Only 2 pillows and they were flat. Workman were walking past the patio door every few mins carrying building material. No window or fan only sliding door for fresh air. Construction on a sunday morning with workers walking past the sliding door talking. Water was pooling in the shower, we had to use our foot as a plunger. No plug for the sink. 1970's peachy toilet and basin. No one present to complain to when checking out at 11am as the reception doesnt open in the morning. Also no one at reception when we wanted more pillows. We wouldn't stay again. Only to discover that they charged my card again on 20/6/23. When they eventually answered their phone I was told there was something wrong with the machine and the 1st transaction did not go through even though I had showed them proof that it had. So without my knowledge or consent they charged me again and I will have to wait 3-5working days for a refund according to the owner who was pretending to be the receptionist on the phone. They totally spoilt what was meant to be a lovely weekend away after months of not having a weekend off.

Check your bank if you're being charged twice

Broken Bathroom sink.  No curtains in room except for blackout curtains  therefore anyone could look into the room during the day.  Mattress needs replacing all you felt were the springs.  Wi-fi spotty and power when out several times during stay.  Would not recommend staying there

Worst experience  ever.

No Fuss Booking and Allowed us into our Room slightly Early. Only downside was asking to use the Gymnasium and being told it was already in use ...?
Fishing and BBQ Facilities in a Very Pleasant Area are also Available and Clare Centre has Loads of Good Restaurants and Facilities.

Business Visit.

Dear Ardilaun Guesthouse Team,
end of Sept. 2022 we stayed in room #5 for 3 nights (arriving Tuesday 27th Sept., leaving Friday 30th Sept.). In general, our stay was ok, the room itself is nice and clean, thanks to riverside we enjoyed the quietness.

However, there are a number of reasons for a complaint:
​Breakfast announced – no breakfast available - on your website, you advertise breakfast ... even with great pictures. But nothing is being provided at all.

This is disappointing and should be properly communicated instead of raising wrong expectations.

​Bathroom – ugly (see pictures below): Unfortunately, the bathroom had several issues:
o Black mould in the shower – a no-go!
o The water tap of the sink is loose
o The knob for controlling the heating was laying on the floor (in the main room as well)
The soap bottle above the sink is permanently dripping soap into the sink
Service – enough room for improvement

On Thursday, our room was not cleaned. We had no fresh cups, no coffee sachets, no milk – we had to fetch it on Friday morning from the “dining” room.
Except for Tuesday afternoon, when we checked in and paid for our stay, we never saw someone at the reception desk; that is why we send our complaint now through email. It would be very much appreciated by us to receive a response and some sign of good-will. Otherwise, we will not be in a position to recommend your place to friends and others – on the contrary!

I shared this complaint with Ardilaun Guesthouse on 2. Oct. 2022 - but never received any response whatsoever!
