The hotel was a bit neglected on the outside but inside it was good and pretty. The owner was a bit reserved at the bginning but in the end we became friends-ish. The rooms very pretty and nice but there were some problems along the way but the staff helped us. Problems with nonfunctioning aircondition and other things. They served delicious lemonads, tea and coffe but only sometimes. They were a BEATIFUL VIEW from the balcony in the restuarant. You could see iguanas in the trees and enjoy the view over the sea. The "beach" was a few metres of sand with garbage, so that wasn't much fun.

Fine stay but dirty beach and sporadic service

Hotel is situated right at the water and has it's own "muelle" where you can get dropped off from your boat from Puerto Barrios. Also there is a little beach, the water is shallow and warm but maybe a little to close to the river mouth and the town's drain pipes... The central street of Livingston is only a minute walk. 
The staff was helpful and friendly but not really professional. We didn't have hot water for two days due to the inefficiency of the staff. The rooms are simple but clean enough. All in all overpriced when you use Booking.com considering breakfast was not included. TIP: check out Casa Nostra run by an American named Stuart first. 

A possible choice

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the Gil Resort.  A wonderful staff (language was a little bit of a barrier, but that's on me).  I had a first floor room, and frequented the covered deck out on the water for a window to the gulf.  Nice two level restaurant that serves coffee and breakfasts.  Was able to walk just about anywhere I wanted.  No problems with soap, sheets or smells, discussed in older posts.

The Gil was a fine stay

Nothing to complain about except the price. A little over priced but compared to other places we saw.  Livingston is a small town with not much to do. If you are looking for a place to relax than you should have a good time.

Acceptable

The overall property sits in a little hole in the wall area of Livingston with a school nearby and a huge development hotel at the corner of the street. The staff was helpful and the rooms were clean but towels were ragged and soap seemed scarce.
It was about $30 per nite and you had to pay in advance..
