Everything was very good. Loved the design. Pretty well located. Free parking on the premises. Nice touch having shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, quality products. Overall very good experience.
We had some trouble getting the fence gate to close properly with the combination lock a couple of times, no big deal.

I booked a cottage with you (Papa Hemingway) I must admit that I am not happy with my stay. I reached out to you several times over my short weekend in Venice Beach. Not one time did you respond to my issues. The one fan in the cottage didn’t work. The smell in the cottage was horrible. It smelled of cat pee. The furniture needs a good cleaning. Our last night there, there was a roach crawling up the wall. TV didn’t work but for a few local channels. The rug was dirty and dingy. The cork floor in the bathroom was missing cork tiles. I would not recommend staying here to any. Venice beach has many other beautiful spots to spend your money on!

Nasty

I came into town for a 2 night stay to attend a huge holiday event.  There was no hot water.  I couldn't take a shower for my event.  I emailed and called the property twice to request a refund for the second night twice on Friday and twice on Saturday, but never heard back from the management.  I ended calling someone I know in Anaheim to see if I could stay there on Saturday.  Don't take a chance staying here.  It will ruin your whole visit.

My cottage, the Papa Hemingway, had no working toilet during my entire two day stay. The owners were notified immediately but took twenty hours to respond. They said they'd send a maintenance man to fix it, but no one ever came. Given two numbers to reach the owners but one was constantly busy, and the other went straight to voicemail. Owners only reached out to me via email and then only twice. Can't really express how inconvenient this was, I literally had no working toilet in my cottage. Don't believe the owners are even aware of the condition of the property and not involved at all. Plenty of better options around the area with working toilets. Even the hostel closer to the beach had working toilets!

Beware of This Property

We paid over 300 euros for a night for a very old cottage. Our friend's cottage had a more modern decoration. When we arrived alone the cottage code was working. We tried to call the cottage insurance number but could not reach them. We wrote an email but four days later I still have no answer!

Too expensive.

Not Vintage! 2nd hand and very unclean! Broken sofa, thin grey sheets ( covering comfortable bed) too much Stuff lying about. I kept banging my foot on an unnecessary table taking up room in bath. Cottages are so pretty, it is truly sad. Going back to LA, giving Venice Beach a miss........oh! Not near beach!!

That's where the positives end...
Cleanliness - the place was so dirty. The exterior walls were filthy, the outside hadn't been swept let alone hosed, all the pots/pans in the kitchen had to be washed before we could use them due to previous food caked onto them, there was mould on the shower curtain and even the laminated "welcome sheet" was stained. 
Beds - I had reconfirmed twice that we would need the sofa bed made up. There was no bedding or pillows provided for the sofa bed so had to use the throw from the chair and pillows from the master bedroom.
Noise - the place is so noisy from both traffic and people noise. Plus you can hear everything going on in the cottage next to you too. 
Privacy - there isn't any. Can't sit outside and enjoy the porch without everyone in the street seeing you. 
Communication - there isn't any. Granted you get an email before you arrive with the pin to your cottage but that's it.  
We considered asking for a partial refund and leaving early but decided to leave it be. In the end we did leave a day earlier than planned. 
In theory, the idea of cute eco cottages is great but the execution was so poor that couldn't enjoy the experience.

A huge waste of money. We loved the idea of an eco cottage but the reality was nothing short of a nightmare. The place was filthy. We had specified there would be two of travelling and we would need the sofa bed made up (Mother/daughter) So naturally we were disappointed not only that the sofa bed was not made up but there was no bedding for it. We used a spare duvet cover (no duvet) and a throw from an armchair - had to raid pillows from the master bed. The sofa bed when extended was the most uncomfortable contraption that I resorted to sleeping on it as a couch - a tall order when I am only 5ft 3" and my legs dangled over the side. 

The place was incredibly noisy - zero insulation so noise from the street is a problem as is noise from the neighboring cottage where the couple had a child staying with them

The bathroom was filthy - dust and mould everywhere. Half a roll of toilet paper (no spare supplies) no soap - lots of left over shampoo and conditioner from previous guests which we thought a little odd. Floor was filthy. The lock on the bathroom window fell off.

The briefing instructions talked of a list of TV channels (not provided) a phone (never located) 

The exterior and front porch were filthy - so much built up dust and grime - plus dead potplants. There was a glass table out front which had the cottages security code written in the dust for all to see - great security!

The kitchen also was filthy - but no cloth to wipe the counters. We thought we would have a simple dinner of steak and salad - the pots and pans provided were filthy too - one pot even had pasta stuck to the bottom of it. We found one non stick frypan for the steak. The place is so tiny that after seconds of putting the steak in the pan the smoke alarm went off - this happened three times - even with all doors and windows open. 

Parking is a nightmare - there is space for 3 very small cars and you still have to negotiate your way around the garbage bins. The gum trees drop sap all over your car and the birds who frequent the trees poop all over the cars.

I could go on - but will stop here - we felt truly ripped off - to the point we checked out early - not that the owners would know or care. The lack of care or pride in the cottages was apparent - owners are obviously in it for a quick buck. We will never return nor will we recommend this grossly misrepresented cottage. Avoid!

A Big Mistake

The cottage we rented, although cozy and nicely decorated, was dirty when we arrived. The sheets were unchanged, the towels used, the bathtub and the sink were dirty. The housekeeping was done only the next day at noon but a smell remained throughout our stay. In addition, the noise from the street prevented us from sleeping well because the insulation was very bad.
