It was a really bad experience, bad location, too expensive for what used to be the hostel, we got to the 1st floor and didn't even have the room ready, the area is a favela, we were never given phrases, one of the beds lacked 2 tables, which made it very difficult to sleep, I really don't recommend it.

Disastrous for them.

I recommend it to travelers with little money and little ambition, the location is the most interesting as you'll get to know an authentic neighborhood that at first glance will seem dangerous, but if you go for a walk you'll find some incredible views and some little things like the mirante 74 very pretty very good people el carioca, I'm tired of taking pictures of the trains for the nights, good location, the place doesn't have much comfort or talk about air conditioning, the breakfast is hot, I wasn't there much, I use it for sleeping and bathing.

I went before the 2014 world cup. My two sisters and I were stranded at the Lapa Steps as we were scammed by a non-existant hostel address. Andre noticed we were stranded and told us to go to this safe hostel. We later found out it was run by him and his lovely family. He saved us and we ended up loving our hostel experience. Free wifi, free breakfast, and transportation to Copacabana Beach was provided. I highly recommend it! 

Friendly, hospitable, safe

Thank you Andre for the fantastic hospitality. This hostel is perfect if you would like to experience the real "Carioca" life in the favela. The area is not dangerous at all, don't believe anything people say. People are very warm and friendly in this area. The hostel is also a 15 min walk from the bus station and close to the airport.

Great hostel if you're on a budget!

This hostel is at the top of the hill in not so safe neighborhood. When we arrived, we didn't get what we booked. Instead of one night in private 4-bed room we got 3 separate beds in 2 different rooms with other people. It was time of carnival so we didn't have time to look for another hostel. Shared bathroom and bed were dirty. There were also mosquitoes and bed bugs. There are no airconditioner in the room so there was 40 degrees. The only good thing was the price but if you want to sleep in decent hostel, go somwhere else.

Nightmare

I stayed at this Hostel, the treatment of the owners is excellent, but the big disadvantage of the Maravilha River is its location. On top of a moor, in an area quite ugly enough to move around at night and with public transportation. We had to ask for a taxi to transfer us on the recommendation of even the people of the Hostel itself.
