We found this place by happy accident. We had been in Panamá for literally one hour. Directly after landing at the airport and a short bumpy ride later We were dropped off at the hotel next door to this hostel. To our dismay the hotel was completely closed down even though we had reservations.  

Feeling helpless and lost, and I have to admit, slightly afraid We happened upon a kind man named Alberto. He is the caretaker of this beautiful establishment.  

He kindly welcomed us into his beautiful home and guest quarters. There had recently been a large party at the property so many of the rooms were dirty. However he still allowed us to utilize a space on the balcony while we waited. 

The property features an abundance of wildlife as well as the most awesome sheep and livestock including varieties of chickens and ducks and bunnies. There was a story for every type of animal as to how it ended up there and became part of the family here at Hostel Casa de Campo. 

Alberto told us many stories of the history of the property and the area. He was a great verbal tour guide explaining the wonderful hikes in the area which we were fortunate to listen to his advice and see the beautiful river. 

We're so fortunate that we had this happy accident because spending time with Alberto at the propertywas one of the highlights of our entire Panama trip and we visited three other resorts during our stay. they were all beautiful as well however this was something special and unforgettable just because of the amazing service the beautiful location, and the great stories.

One of the best experiences we had in Panamá!

Nice experience, I met some Peruvians, with a lot of education, I loved sharing with them and they would talk to me about the Panama Canal. I was invited to take a walk around the blue hill, country house, the very good weather, no heat, like the city of Panama. I love the site, with the clean pool, we recommend it to travelers, who come to Panama and visit this HOTEL CASA DE CAMPO, no they will regret going to spend a few very happy days,

We were very well served, everything clean and orderly, the food was well creamy and tasty.

Probably if you see the photos on the website you get the idea of something better, but when you get there you realize that those photos were taken a long time ago. Don't provoke yourself into the pool I never saw the filter working what if you saw a bunch of bugs floating in a somewhat murky pool. When you paid for the reservation the price included breakfast for 3 (2 adults and 1 child) but the next morning we were told that it wasn't so at last so that we could discuss better to grab your bags and look for a place to eat. If you're looking for a place to sleep alone quizzes this site works at the thousands of wonderful clean beds and hot water quizzes, but no you're thinking you're going to find the spa that those photos suggest you went to 20 years ago.

No, I do not recommend it.

The experience at this hotel was excellent, the staff and the friendly owners in general I recommend this place for couples and friends, the view from our room to the mountains is very beautiful and everything is clean! 😃👍🏻 The place is close to the boutique center and restaurants and has information for different activities in the area.

A visit to the Boquete Fair

We are a couple of Spanish ornithologists.We spent a week staying at the hostel at the end of September 2014 (7-14/10/14).First of all, we would like to thank and praise the kind treatment received, both by Doña Ana María and by the hotel staff.The food was undoubtedly the best in our entire trip through Panama.The place is beautiful and the surroundings are very suitable for hiking and nature excursions.From our point of view, Cerro Azul is an area of great interest for its rare species of birds and the Hostal Casa de Campo is the perfect place to use it as a base of operations.Just in the garden and the nearby terraces you can observe many of the specialties of the area, including endemic species (a carpintero and unbrí).We have two rooms in a spacious covered room where we have installed a large garden, which was also a place where we can observe all the rare species of birds, and we recommend that you enjoy a very quiet stay.

It's a beautiful, quiet, and very good place for bird watching.

The eating area outside by the pool is lovely and the breakfast was great. Unfortunately the house itself is rather old and tired. The rooms are quite spacious but the walls are so thin that you can hear people next door as they turn over in bed! Each room does have an ensuite although they are very basic and not overly clean. Could use a coat of paint. Having said that, there is not a great deal of choice in the area. We arrived in the evening and if we hadn't had a driver we would never have found it.

We stayed here for three nights with a birding group.
The property has recently undergone a management change; the staff seems to be working hard to clean the place up; it is pretty run down.  But it is quite charming; I loved it.  There is a wonderful view and the rooms are large.  The staff is very willing to accommodate visitors' needs.  We had a very early breakfast one morning and staff could not have more accomodating.

Great possibilities!

At $150US/night this is definitely not a good choice. Location is beautiful with birding opportunities. However, the property has garbage everywhere (old deck chairs, rusted bicycles, old hoses, cracked cement, leaks in roof, no staff). When we arrived the one person on the property did not even know we were coming. Spoke with manager over cellphone who informed us cook was sick, but would be back tomorrow. We were there 3 nights and never did anyone clean our room, make our bed, or change our sheets. Meals were what you would buy in local restaurant for a couple of dollars (cook left dinner for someone else to heat and serve). No choices, no menus. Pool was full of dirt on bottom and filter not even running. No one even provided (not even a printed sheet) with info about hotel/area/etc. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL.

Great location, premium prices, terrible property

We decided to stay here on the strength of the other review posted - sounded like a good birding spot convenient to Tocumen - easy way to end our long trip to Panama.  Had a driver pick us up from Allbrook airport and deliver us to the lodge. 

On the plus side, it is definitely a good birding area.  We walked all around this totally residential neighborhood and saw lots of interesting birds.  We also walked some distance down the long path that is ultimately in Chagres Natl Park.   (Saw a violaceous trogon there - gorgeous bird).   Had a nice chat with the very nice owner at dinner.     The two staff members could not have been more accommodating.    So basically we enjoyed our stay.

Think owner is struggling to maintain this family property while also working and spending time in the city.    Work remains to be done.  Property could use more upkeep/maintenance.   Our room, while large and comfortable - with comfy bed and nice outside space, was oddly decorated.   The spacious grounds with beautiful trees could use some more work too - if only to clear out some of the old furniture rusting in place out there.    It's a shabby chic kind of place.

The 40 or so year old development where the lodge is located is very quiet.   Apparently it was the first of the developments in Cerro Azul.  Now there are fancier ones higher up.   About half of the houses in the neighborhood are vacant -  either for the season or -forever.    Some owners have apparently just walked away.  Others are for sale.    The other half of the development's houses are lovely and well maintained.   

While we were prepared for it to be quiet up there (and were rather looking forward to it), we were a bit spooked to realize we'd be alone at the inn on our last night - with just a single staffer (though he couldn't have been more accommodating).

I'd recommend this lodging for folks looking for a peaceful day or two of birding.
